I think Loomis way is the easiest and most comfortable for me. The thing I consider most is the proportion and angle of the face, so the box is easier than the sphere. When you're familiar with that, you can just draw an arch for eye (brow) line, then middle line of the face (in any angle) and build from that.
There's other approach like anime style, that's use the sphere for cranium and go down.
If you are new, then choose one and stick with it. When you are comfortable, you can make your own way.

After watch Yoji Shinkawa, now I just start with an eyebrow and... struggle....

Don't rush, making good scans is a pain. I learned it this week while digitizing an old music booklet. For top quality you'll want to deskew, dewarp, crop and run the pages through OCR. Straightening out a single page can be a huge chore but it's worth it for posterity. You are using the wrong format for scanning though, scan all the pages to one multi page TIFF at maximum ppi and take it from there. ScanTailor Advanced will help you with the image manipulation, you can practically reprint the result as an original.

Yeah scanning books can be a pain sometimes and can be quite boring. I like scanning books for others, but every page takes 2-3 minutes with the scanning itself, checking the page, cropping later on etc. and for a 300+ page book that's a lot sometimes.

I'm thankful that I started scanning books with Pen and Ink. The book is really forgiving to scan since it's completely in black and white and the primary reason for the book is teaching and not looking at pretty pictures.

It definitely not worth your effort. Not count that the pages are not lying flat and the lighting is not good (which can be fix), I think the image quality (camera) is not good. The drawing is not clear, it's blurry and noisy.

Please take your time to scan it. If you waste your time taking all those pictures, in the end you will be the one disappointed.

What you need is to keep the camera steady and carefully focused. Make sure the whole page is contained in the frame, it will help you flatten it in post.

Well, take any video that have the actions you want and go frame by frame (or slow-mo). Or you can have someone film yourself. I think that would be more practical.
The point is to know what (bone, muscle) involves in the action and how they move. And with your knowledge of human anatomy and how to construct figure in perspective, you can draw any pose you imagine.

Yeah.. it's really hard if you want complete motion range and from many angles since not so many video was made for that. Even those photos have limits, mostly they're only simple actions and take on stand still model. If you want advanced actions, you have to shoot it yourself from the angle you want.

That why my point is:
1. You look for video with the action you want
2. Analize that action to know how the gesture, bones, anatomy work. And feel the force.
3. Building a figure in perspective use simple form (sphere, cylinder, cube) at the angle you want. You can use a figurine or use 3D software for this.
4. Applied the action. Then anatomy.

We amateur may think it complicated and take alot of effort but pro artist make their own references like that (but you must have idea of what you want to draw or paint in mind first).

I looked through it in a book store and it might be the worst FF artbook out there. It's basicly 50% Kingsglaive CG, 30% XV CG and screenshots and 20% actual art but nothing that you can't just find on the internet. Even for a game with some development problems i would expect way more art.
If you want good FF artbooks go for the FF14 books or the Amano collection.
