It won because it was one of the most well drawn, obviously. That and it was at the top of submissions on the very first batch you got to vote on. Not sure why they didn't just put it off and put everything up at the same time.
What bothers me the most is probably the single braid. Imagine it unbraided. Dumb as hell. Would make at least a bit of sense if the other side was long there and braided as well.

Why do people choose to potentially embarrass themselves by making such assumptions that could be completely wrong?

I like the art, but have a few small nitpicks with the design:
- random hole in skirt
- bracelet introduces random pink color
- white trim on the yellow checker on the sleeve, but random grey checker trim on the skirt hem
- hair is three layers of different lengths. two is fine, but three looks a bit weird to me, just imagine what her haircut must be like with her hair down.
