There is literally nothing wrong about having characters that are fat, have stretch marks, pimples, etc. The issue is when they are poorly drawn and inconsistent or when the type of peculiarity isn't really a peculiarity but part of a trend (like Tumblr and vitiligo).

The idea that all art or protagonists need to be fit and attractive is full fucking retard and is probably one of the most normie opinions in the world. Rat Fink, Robert Crumb or John K. all make genuinely ugly art (the latter makes cheesecake but let's not pretend that's anywhere as valued as his goofier cartoon characters). For someone like me, and I hope for people on this site, that sort of "ugly art" works because it is technically competent.

However, given the vitriol a lot of youo are expressing, I am starting to think that the objections to this art isn't entirely aesthetic, but political. You find these SJWs types annoying and their attempts to integrate different looking characters into pop art as insincere and lacking in genuine aesthetic sensibility (which of course, is as ridiculous as the centrist complaining about the political ideologies of others). Regardless of how annoying you find these people, I actually think it's great that young cartoonists are trying to make stuff that is unconvential, even if they make a lot of (albeit amusing) blunders along the way.

TLDR: A lot of this art is shit but a good chunk of you aren't really mad about the art, you're mad about the perceived politics you infer from the art and need to stop being such a whiny cunt

It's good, but not that unique, really. The artist was clearly drawing inspiration (maybe trying to replicate) a certain Jap anime style that was mostly seen as cutesy fanart back then (dunno if it's still popular).
They almost mastered it, and then Tumblr happened. Poor guy.

This, I came into this thread expecting less "OMG they totally RUINED my favorite characters!!" and more "holy shit look at that anatomy". I mean, I hate tumblr as much as the next guy, but most of that "tumblr art" that's been posted ITT has been subject of ridicule a thousand times before, on many different sites, and I'm so fucking sick of it. It's nothing new, even if the pictures are different, the complaints are the same and the style is similar.
