Ok, so I haven't been able to post shit recently, but I've been on it regardless. I think I'm going to go with a specific theme compared to last year's randomness- older males.

Coming back to this the same like last year- was on hiatus prior to starting. Except this year I drew more than I did the last three years even if it's just a few completed things, and I attribute some of that activity doing Inktober last year. My goal is the same thing as well as that time- making drawing more of a habit. It was fun seeing everyone's work, too.

What are your personal goals participating in this year's Inktober, anons? Followers? Exposure? Improvement with ink? Trying to get into the comfort of posting your work to other people?

I think its fine as is. the crab jumping at her would kill some of the suspense and rhythm you get. with the splotch, it reads as noise and you assume she squashed the crab and the pay off is it was the opposite.

this is why I feel inktober should have a hard rule in place about it being strictly traditional pen and paper, with the option for penciled base. Can't tell you how many process videos pop up on my instagram about how hard inktober is but they're "powering through it" and in the video they use ctrl+z like 40 times, resize lines, lasso and move lines, erase lines, etc. Hell one dude I follow restarted the entire drawing twice in one video, except for one eye. Digital is a crutch and should not be allowed during inktober. Go get some white out, or trace the parts you like if you're really that shitty at it. But at least TRY traditional.

You know it's true. I'm all for people just creating art in general, but it's really stupid how people have to bring their comfort bubble into something like this instead of breaking out and actually learning how to do something new. Of course 90% of the time it's a social media ploy. They want "good" art of theirs to get the traction from inktober without making any kind of sacrifice, unlike those who actually take the "challenge" portion of it seriously to a degree. Are you a digital artist who doesn't want your ink drawings to suck dick in inktober? Then practice before October comes around and do it the right way. You have literally a year to prepare for it but instead you'd rather use a crutch.

I truly applaud those of you, if any, who primarily make digital art but have decided to go strictly pen and paper with this challenge. Thanks for not fucking it up. Yes I'm mad. Not at the person I'm replying to, I just used his post as a base.

I feel the same way anon. I'm not gonna shit on paper for doing digital, but if you're just doing digital what is the point of calling it inktober? I get people who use graphite, colored pencil, marker, or watercolor for their inktober pieces but when people use digital I feel like people are missing the point entirely.
I do almost all my art in digital, and I feel working in ink and traditional and general has really helped me improve my line quality and confidence. I feel like the point of inktober is to improve by going out of your comfort zone, so why not try something different and to traditional?

Exactly. I feel like traditional practice gets you more mileage than digital practice anyways. I rarely have to erase my lines on digital aside from just using too much pressure by accident, just because I'm so used to doing long confident strokes in traditional. Unlike people who use digital only who typically do chicken scratch lines and just erase imperfections until its smooth, which clearly wouldn't be practical to rely on. Especially if their tablet and/or computer gets stolen or breaks somehow. Gotta either start from the bottom or pay $300 or more to draw again.
