They don't shove politics into everything like Americans.
They're held back by their shitty idea of "appearing to be a hard worker" but not actually achieving anything from all that effort. The need to sacrifice their well-being to keep up appearances, and endure the abuse of their superiors, created a society where everyone is socially isolated.
Work > life is their go-to mindset, but that mentality is the very thing destroying their society.

They don't, writing about politics in Japan can be quite risky because a lot of companies there hold a lot of influence, so in order to not accidentally fuck with their friends or enemies, they generally refrain from dipping their feet to much into it.
Generally when you see politics in japanese manga/anime it's about broad themes or mentions big cultural issues like the declining birth rates or whatever. It's a bit of a different story for litterature though, that I can agree with.

I think our western entertainment industry has little to no standards of art outside of Disney movies.
There are amazing western artists out there if you look for them but 99% of tv shows and shit look horrendous, especially now with the spaghetti arm crap adventure time made a staple

It seems like its worse too because we used to have nicer looking shows with different art styles like DuckTales or Gargoyles and Cybersix but now it's all pretty much the samish art style

It's hard to compare since the highest budget stuff would be Disney and Dreamworks, and also completely children-oriented, so the for-kids-look has a lot of influence. Nothing quite as mature in the west.

I quite liked the 2D animation Dreamworks stuff, like Road to El Dorado, but it's probably not something I would emulate.

You would probably be better off looking at comics for western styles. I particularly like the French comics styles though many of them are influenced by manga nowadays.

I think western styles aren't as "concentrated" as the Japanese anime style because we are a lot more individualistic than the Japanese and aim to be more unique.

Yes, a lot of studios are foreigner friendly. You need to be able to write and speak Japanese or at least show good will towards learning the language. In most cases you'll have to move unless you're somehow a gengaman from the get go.

I've been learning Japanese for fun for a few years. Doing animation for at least a year in Japan feels like like it would be a super fun experience. I've also got some figure drawing experience. I've just never been there and I don't know how realistic it would be to fly there and start working in the industry with 0 experience. Would perhaps be easier with like 10k USD saved.

I think the PRC is on the rise too but I wanna work with 2d foremost and I don't know how common that is over there.

My Hero Academia has some of the shittiest animation I've ever seen in my goddamn life; have you ever actually looked at that fight between All Might and Nomu? What a cluster fuck. The background art is all run through a gross photoshop filter too. I love the show, but you're way too easily compromised by your affinity for the characters or story if you're going to lump its trash animation with its overall appeal because it's just not there. Calling it better than Disney is a fuckin' joke, but who am I kidding, you're probably one of those guys that think that a punch animation is more difficult than a walk cycle.

Incidentally I just watched the movie tonight. Unfortunately the animation was barely an improvement over a typical episode apart from primarily a few sparse seconds during the battle with the first antagonist and then towards the end, literally some of the only real character acting in the entire movie. The majority of the time there could hardly be said to be any animation at all. Holy shit.

I love the show but it is far from an artistic achievement; the backgrounds are clipart and stock photos run through a photoshop filter (can't remember what it's called. Paint Daubs?), the characters barely move in dialog scenes apart from their big triangle mouths, and the most important action scenes are often an inscrutable, disjointed mess. How anyone can say it looks better than Disney is beyond me.

(I'm still going to watch every episode as it airs, though)
