It's all going do depend on the value, but looks good so far.

Speaking of value, I just put 45 minutes into this. It's just going to be a 3-4 hour value study, but if it goes well maybe I'll try to do a full 20-30 hour rendering. Never done one in oil, still learning what to use different bristles for

Thanks for the tips.
I can see how the muscles on the right are more defined and that can lead to some awkwardness. Like I said to the other anon, maybe making them less define could make the pose look less awkward.
I do believe however the way I drew the muscles, how they are connected, how the deltoid that comes from the spatula and twists around the bicep. I think i kinda nailed that.
I may be failing at drawing the forms, but i think i'm doing the connections and detecting the forms right.

But yes, i need to fix the left part of this back more, or make the right side less defined.
Again, thanks for the help

using this as my base to give an opinion that nobody asked for

is this referenced? I know it's obv Dragon Ball but the hand looks like it's forward facing. Also the far eye on Gogeta looks a little wonky. Or maybe it's the shape of the face or nose? Something just seems off. Also Gogeta's belt ties in the front on the right side. Maybe add some lines for back muscles next time as well. One last thing, I don't think you should see as much hair on the far side of Gogeta's face. Overall I like it though. Good coloring on the skin, especially Vegeta. If I saw this as a print at a convention I'd buy one if it were under $20 and 100% finished. Color them clothes and a background my dude.

Or you can pirate 'Shop or wait for CSP to go on sale (which it does very often). If you already have an iPad get Sketchbook. Then you can just take pics of your pencil drawings and color them instantly so no need for scanner.

Right leg also morphs through the seat with the thigh shrunken like a dry fruit
Head is at least twice too big, same with the neck
Otherwise the image shows promise
thinner upper body, from that perspective, you wouldn't be able to see the stomach, maybe a little bit of breast, thin out he neck, make the head smaller, back of the skull is not visible as it molds to the back of the neck, fix that
make the ass bigger vertically, make legs at least 2,5 times thicker than what they are right now, just simple size edit would work, make the thighs have more roundness instead of being straight sticks

If you want to get good, draw every day anything from 2 hours to 8 hours if you have the time.

If you're starting just now, don't bother with traditional. Digital offers more tools at less hassle and is cheaper in the long run and is also noob friendly.
Buy Huion H610 Pro for 50-80 bucks. It's a drawing tablet that is of superb quality even when it's so damn cheap. I've owned one for few years now and it shows zero signs of wear.
It comes with a glove and 4 interchangeable tips if they start going full after use but after my few years of use, the tip hasn't lost any of its sharpness.
Just download drives from their website and you're good to go. The pen has some technology in it so it needs charging but with 2 hours of charging you can use it for over a month nonstop.

Also watch a lot of professionals drawing and possibly find yourself some artists that you can look up to. I improved my drawing by simply watching awesome pictures of my favourite comic book artists.
Apply some of the stuff they do to your own drawings, possibly even copy their style. It's impossible to learn drawing if you try to invent things out of the blue. Innovation comes from copying something and making it better, in art, give things your own twist and thus develop your own style.
Draw at least one finished picture / sketch per day and you'll be a pro in few years. Drawing is like any other talent, it takes TIME. If you don't commit, you'll never become good at it, same applies to everything you do in life. Repetition is the key. Keep doing it daily, even when you feel like you're not making any progress, you are. It's small baby steps all the way to the end.

Maybe start a blog where you upload daily images, this'll eventually get you recognition and motivation to keep drawing.

There are fake credit card generators but I am not sure if you have to do a purchase of sorts to get the trial.
Just use real credit card, it's amazon's service so it's legit, but if there's some check in system with the card itself, I guess the trial it can't be abused.

That's some really nice stroke economy! I don't think you should necessarily take this any further if you feel like you've captured the originals aesthetic (which I think you have). I think you could lose a little bit of the "tightness" and hard edges on those elbow spikes and claws as there was clearly an implied radial motion blur here but otherwise I think you did a really good job.

You gonna paint the chick too? Anyways, you should definitely try to paint something 'similar' with your own design right after doing this so you really retain what you've studied.

yea youre right if I need a reference for anything its correct human poses atleast

> Also the far eye on Gogeta looks a little wonky
the small on to the left? I could try not drawing so small for a change lol.

>Also Gogeta's belt ties in the front on the right side.
now that I think about it, from behind you shouldn't even be able to see the knot
> Maybe add some lines for back muscles next time as well
like on the neck? or add some more definition in his vest on the back ?
>I don't think you should see as much hair on the far side of Gogeta's face.

his hair did seem a little too big.

sheeit, heres the finished one atleast and thank you for the notes. I don't want to recreat the exact same drawing but ill change the design with the correct anatomical positioning based on some reference.

I cant describe it in theory , its more like something you get the "feel" for , but I specifically used that card as a study cuz I liked the way he did it in that illustration ( he has a few styles in his artwork ) , download some of his art and try doing studies , maybe at first your studies turn out overly soft and muddied but as you go youll start getting closer and closer , if it helps i used rectangle brush for this one as i didnt get similar result to his with round brush ( i still filled in the forms with round brush first as im so used to it) , if you want to focus on edge control try doing focused studies with simple brushes that have no texture , one round one rectangular and one triangular

you didn't say that in your original post so I wanted to cover my ass.

About the back muscles, I meant in the space between the jacket and the belt. I feel like there should be a line to represent the spine or something. Maybe on his neck too but definitely on his back. The belt tassels (ribbons?) or whatever they're called are fine, you just shouldn't be able to see the knot at all, like you said.

This is a little nitpicky, but the tall part of Goku's hair always points in the same direction as his face. But I see that if you had done it that way, the blacks wouldn't have met up as nicely.

First, I'm neither of the guys who replied to you, and secondly, I'm not really one to be giving advice, but I kinda see what they mean in the whole "backward cloak" thing. Mostly it's just that you didn't break the middle of it so it looks like the back of a cape, but (and to a lesser degree) it's also the lightning on the side attributing a sort of sloping value to the cloak that implies the arm is facing forward, besides the lightning itself breaking just at the level of the elbow but in the opposite direction.

I hope it helped mate, and disregard my normie point of view if some knowledgeable fucks drops by.

Hey mang! I really dig where your thing was going but I thought you might need some help with some stuff so I did a little overpainting. I don't really know what your dude was supposed to be so I made him into some kind of naked rat-wolf-cat-man to illustrate my points... I'm only doing this because I think you have a lot of potential but you need to focus on some things so you can be a real nigga like Slim Shady and Solid Snake or something some day...

My biggest crits:

You're looking at everything like a 2D shape. You really need to get in there and start shading stuff like they were actual 3D forms. This might sound boring but I think you should study stuff like spheres, cylinders and boxes. You also need to have something come towards the viewer and I subtly tried to do that with the characters thigh and knee.

Other minor stuff:

I love your design and you clearly have a really good eye for composition and lighting but you have to study some more anatomy. When I did this overpainting I just took a photo of a lion and a photo of some shoulder muscles and I think it's instantly more coherent. Don't be afraid to play around with this shit especially if you're doing creatures. I made his hip bones and scapulae unrealistically pronounced because I think it makes him look even more spooky and fierce than he did.

Some other thoughts:

Don't EVER pose your characters with a 100% side view of their head unless it's an album cover, study, or someone specifically asks for it. It's a dead giveaway for any professional looking at your work. "Okay this dude/chick can't draw shapes in 3D space". This really ties in with the first thing I said but I can't emphasize this stuff enough!

Also don't ever start to imply textures before you have the base anatomy, coherent lighting and ambient occlusion (according to lighting) on your character.

Aww man that's so much better than what I did on my overpaint. Just gonna do a side question about overpaints in general and I'd like to hear what other people think about this stuff:

Like I said before I don't think that overpaints need to look like finalized versions of what you think the original artist should do to their images. Just illustrate the points you're talking about and get out. That's how I think of it. People need to figure shit out themselves.

I've seen this shit too much up here where somebody's talking about a specific problem with a piece without going into great detail with their fixes and some random asshole's like "Her eyes look weird nao :((" when the person doing the overpainting was talking about a completely separate subject like the composition or pose. Usually it's not even the original poster of an image who gets triggered but some random dickhead who doesn't have anything else to contribute to the conversation...

I'm not even talking about my overpainting/instructions in particular. Maybe it was really bad or maybe my points didn't come across clearly.

Anyways what do you guys think about this stuff?

>> No.3621472

You did a good job on the rendering part. Some artists learn from either paragraphs of text or by visual observance of touchups. Either way is enough for them to take note and do studies of various people, animals etc in different angles.

Not 100% sure if the original was intended for go with the pseudo cell-shading or attempting a painterly render look. And they didn't specify if they were open for design changes or to stick with their original concept. They may specify it once they think they have enough pointers to do what they want with their work.

Can I get some critique bout this piece?

Please rip into the composition and tell me if you think it's decent and worthy of being on the cover of a gamecase, or if it is pretty meh/shitty and painfully amateur. Brutal honestly please. I tried to make it close to a megaman style as I could.

How long would it have taken any of you to create this from scratch?

Any feedback at all of what you'd change, whether it's color, gimmicks, etc?

A bit wonky but I hope it might help you out, I;m not sure about your image if the guy's feet are touching the floor or not, so I took some liberties. Maybe knowing which area are you having troubles with would help to think of something else.

Polished sketch before I commit to full on linework and rendering. Hand feels mediocre and the eyes are off perspective and/or proportion-wise. Eyes also don't have the hungry/femdom quality that I was originally going for. Any feedback is appreciated.

>>3621521

The paintjob on the armor seems to blend everything together and makes it are to discern what is what. The arms themselves almost get lost in there. Also like you said, anatomy is slightly off, breasts seem to be a little off perspective and the arms seem a little too thin. Otherwise feels fairly solid.

The breasts looks like they're sitting on different body with the perspective they're in, I could have accepted it as a contrapposto if the shoulders hadn't been completely neutral.
Your eyes look weird since they're not sitting in the sockets of the skull, but have been move up into the brow area.
To get the spikes to read more as 3 dimensional forms, you can think of the shell as half a sphere, draw the ellipse and use it to estimate the midpoint, from here you draw out lines to show the direct the spikes will point, and the rest depends on how well you understand the degree of ellipses in perspective.
Finding the spikes on the collars is the same as the shell, just with cylinders instead of spheres.

As for books, no none of this is from any particular book, it is just about learning perspective and then turning the body into simple forms.
Any figure drawing book will teach you about the simplifying the body, and they make it look dreadfully simple, but even so, it is one of the hardest things to actually do properly, which is why so many people just rush through the early stages of the drawing and ends up with a bunch of errors all over the place.

First off, your criticisms are right on the nail. When I started this fella, it was a 2 point perspective sketch that I threw onto a background. It's somewhat visible in the og sketch here
>>3617640
That I was doing my best to think of his head in 3d space as being tilted up and away. But as I painted it, it was more or less painted out. the perspective for the head (and the entire body) wasn't as strong as I needed to push it in the first place so it's not too surprising that by the later part of rendering that the entire image was compressed to heck and the original issue I had (there is a lack of depth, the figure not being in perspective) is the killing blow.

Thank you for the compliments on the design! I think that's what made me want to stick this one through rather than throw him in the bin of other monsters I never render out. He looked too fun to stop working on, and perhaps the hardest part of painting it, for me, was cutting off his hand with the doorway. As for your notes on reference, I will definitely take that into account. I was originally trying to get him to read as more of a fucked up human, but even then I didn't find as much pose ref as I should have, not to mention that the skin texture needs to read "gross and mangey" but by the end, its far too blue to come across as that because of the lighting I chose

oh boy, and the lighting. I'm surprised you didn't touch on it. It's not anywhere near as dark as the image needs to be, especially if is solely being lit from the front. Yours and>>3620095

He's right. I have so many wip's, sketches and shit I start but never finish. I rarely push my work past a certain point, and this one was a huge step out of my comfort zone. This painting was and is still super important. Also, I really like this lad

Hmm, maybe the issue isn't anatomy but a combination of perspective and anatomy, I guess I should tell you to first do a few weeks or months of perspective to start, get a book and do some exercises or try to copy the lessons, then go back to anatomy. Might help you out. (And thanks anon, I feel it's kind of shitty at the mo, hope I can find my footing at some point if I keep practicing.)

Looks fantastic, love the gesture and rendering. Hmm if anything I would point that the farthest clavicle kind of jumps out with that lighter shape you have used to indicate it, stands out a bit, and feels sort of not connecting with the pit of the neck, maybe having more blurry edges? I dunno, I'm not very good at painting forms yet.

>>3622653
Without the reference hard to tell, but I feel the values could use more contrast, I like it overall. I would love to see the eye in the original ref because I feel it's a bit flat right now, eyes stand out usually without all the subtle values.

First time I tried actual painting instead of my regular mediocre line art.

I have no idea how to mix colors, I tried to look at a color and what I ended up mixing up was very different.

I do grayscale all the time and I've always been bad with colors so even if mixing wasn't a problem, I probably wouldn't know what colors I'd need.

Also, turns out using a paintbrush is hard. So hard to control and I have absolutely no idea how to do long thin lines. Brush hair sticking to paper is also annoying (probably shouldn't use the cheapest brushes?).

I'm really out of my element but it was quite fun, will probably try to learn more.

Shit you right. How about this, or should it be exaggerated more?
Also realized that in the previous image i made her abs bump out at the navel, as if the muscle was sitting on top of the stomach fat.

Eyes too close together

>> No.3623840

>>3623762

Eyes are too close together and it's too obvious that you mirrored stuff. The sparkles on her eyes are too symmetrical. The light source is far enough that those sparkles shouldn't be so close to the center of her face. it also looks weird that the shell she's sitting on is from a 100% top view and her body isn't. I'd also like to see some bounced light on the shell from the bg.

Yeah, I just kinda gave up on the perspective. I didn't know what to do with the posture. She's suppose to be sitting on like a stool or something. I see what you mean about the lights. Will fix those. Thanks!

It was bugging me out how you where showing the latimus dorsi above the triceps. It inserts below it on humerus, close to the head, below insertion point of teres major. I'm quoting this from Stephen Rogers Peck, Atlas of human anatomy. I also did a dirty drawing from the one shown in there for the insertions, color coded.

Second drawing I do only with vine charcoal, although the truth I liked more the simplicity of the first I did. Having the drawing in front you notice much less the texture of the paper, but equally what do you think?

I'm not sure what's her relationship with the space around her? She's floating? But kneeling? The pose is a bit confusing. It would be cool if the hue of her skin reflected the surrounding a bit more. Otherwise it's a cool take on this meme!
>>3623746
I love this!!! I really admire your attention to the detail. I guess it's more a matter of taste than a mistake but I would personally find the piece more appealing if you didn't draw that much detail in some places. For example you could leave the far-away buildings a bit out of focus. But that's just a suggestion, something for you to try. :)
>>3623742
Are you the same guy who always implies I'm boosting my own posts?...

Anyway, I think I've finished this one. Critique very welcome. What can I improve next time?

>> No.3624129

>>3623889
This is nice. A few things I notice: her cheeks/nose seem slightly elongated (she may just have a long face), and her eye is constructed oddly. Her canthus (lateral eye corner) looks like it should be SLIGHTLY further down to more closely match the orientation of her tear duct. The side of her face is also quite wide, which again may just be the actual model. Her neck also looks awkwardly craned, and her right (our left) shoulder looks really narrow/small. The contour from the back of her neck will continue on until the end of the canvas.

For a second charcoal though, this is really nice. Nice rendering, too. More time spent on an accurate drawing will help take it to the next level.

Thanks for the comment. Actually the nose should be longer, and also the forehead should go further. The eye should be a little bigger and it has to be higher. The distance from the ear is fine, but it is a bit bigger originally, also the lips. The neck should be thinner and the shoulder should extend further.

Fuck, I didn't pay much attention to the proportions to focus on trying the charcoal rendering, totally contrary to what I usually do. Seeing it with less sleep I start to realize the mistakes. I'm going to let a few days go by and I'll do it again, paying more attention to the proportions; and of course I'm going to share it again here.
