None of your paintings are "resolved", im sure they are done from your perspective but they seem to be stuck on phase 2 or 3 out of 5. From this perspective, they are incomplete.

I would suggest to keep going over them - adding and subtracting. The painting with the female figure on black. The only reason that looks to be the most complete (still not) is because of the figure which you probably borrowed from Egon Schiele.

/ic/ will tell you it's shit but i think you have a chance at galleries

my advice would be just keep doing what you're doing, and try to be more ambitious with each piece.

There's no reason you made any of theses. You did a figure study and used faux abstract techniques to make them colorful. The only reason to make them that big is to impress people who don't know it makes it easier. Think more about what your making.

You're bad and should accept that you're not doing art because you love it but because you wanna impress people and have that "artist aura" you think artists have.
Do more ( a hell of a lot more ) and start showing your art again in 10 years, if you're still doing art by then.
You can't master painting in a year, hell some people never do.
So stop seeing painting as white bored housewives over 40 see it, a cool hobby that will make people think they're interesting.
Ask yourself why you do art, if the answer ins't "because it feels good and I genuinely love it" then please don't.
We don't need more artist-wanabee in the world.

Now its changed into a way to channel all these overwhelming emotions i deal with daily. Im bipolar and the mood swings are very severe at this time, but im also dealing with my first heartbreak. right now im getting sober again as i went back to heroin this month. all this to say the painting is like a form of meditation to me, true i start aimlessly and most of the time i dont finish but sometimes it dont feel good at all but i need to get it out of me. i dont know if that makes me art wannabe

Looking good, anon. If you find an audience for your work, that's awesome. It's a little too busy for me but I can see why people will like it. If you improve your figures, add more fidelity and realism to them, I think they will be much better. People will be able to appreciate the technical aspects more as well. Your work reminds me of Phil Hale. Check him out if you haven't. And best of luck to your recovery.

Work ethic, balance between logic and emotion, business strategy.
The moody, I have emotions/I have a voice/ I'm unique and will express my harsh life to the common folk approach never works out. The only art students that I see succeeding and all of the art teachers I've ever met are well balanced between expression and market appeal. You break a leg? Keep working. You feel down or depressed? Doesn't matter, keep working. Have your child commit suicide? Keep working, then make a art exhibition showcasing your works that do not talk about your struggles and at best show a bit of melancholy and end up selling all of those works out.
I don't think it matters what you do but you need to view it as a job. If you don't do it then your bills wont get paid. The "artists" who see that as selling out now work in pubs or do commercial prints for toilet paper commercials and at best show their #toodeep works at the local cafe.

It's annoying, it's filled with a disgusting tannish color that reminds me of spoiled milk and it fights with literally ever other color on the canvas. You made the eyes as realistic as you could while leaving the lips and nose to look like clipart. And why is the face almost tucked into the top left corner instead being in the middle of the canvas? This could be a good piece, but you really need to work on the colors

I honestly feel like it's just empty emotionally. With the background of drugs and mental illness you speak of, i'd think you'd have something interesting to say with your paintings, but it's all just unfinished female bodies. I can't paint personally so I can't comment on your skill, but it's miles better than what I can do paint wise.

I can partly agree. we had way too many "i'm so troubled" students at my uni. in fact, a friend of mine went abroad (Israel) and at the final years presentation, one kid was just presenting the worst shit from his lazy term. teachers were trashing him and out of nowhere, he said: "yeah but we had the holocaust", with no connection to any of his works whatsoever.

this kind of deflection is only found in insecure ngmi students. the menstrual blood painting troubled lady, the depressed angsty kid with the difficult family background, the rich family kid with too much money and no skill …

another case, my experience. ugly, fat short-hair feminist is doing her finals presentation. shows a bunch of boring, amateurish frontal studio portrait photos (black and white, what else?). she put another person at 50% transparency on top of each portrait. "yeah i have a birth defect and that's my way to deal with it!". no connection to the topic, tutors and professor silent, afraid they hurt her fee fees. gets an A. this shit is fucking cancer.
