That's not the gesture I'm referring to, retard.

Let's say you are doing a whole figure in Hustons method. He suggests gesture and then structure. But I'm not using my design sense of the breakdowns of the figure with his method but another instructors. He suggests taking gesture from one part of the body to the rest. It's just a jumbled up mess if I try to use his method in a mix of other methods.

He suggests gesture than structure because the gesture is not meant to be used as the structure.

Gesture serves to guide the idea of movement you're trying to depict and the countours you want to depict. Your job after making a gesture is to figure out the a construction that allows for that gesture: pic related explains it well.

I don't think you understand the point of the loomis head. It's essentially a perpective grid that gives context to place facial features and shapes.
Facial features have their own problems with their own solutions.

using a sphere as a grid is a bad idea though. you can't do basic perspective unless you are dealing with a plane or set of planes. a sphere tells you nothing about the figure or where things should go or the symmetry, you're basically just winging it at that point.

thats why loomis puts all the other lines on the face to show you the planes of the head in perspective. If a sphere is too difficult for you to use in perspective then use a cube instead for the cranium. This isn't meant to be representative of the final product but rather guide for drawing accurately in perspective.

this youtuber, moderdayjames uses cubes instead of spheres when drawing a head in perspective. It makes it seem a lot easier to percieve the plane changes of the head when its rotated in space. I recommend drawing along with him and making an exercise out of it
