Sketch big first in an aliased brush and then downscale it. Then do line art on another layer in the binary pen.

Aliasing = distortion/frequency (remember anti-aliasing in video games reduces distortion and screen tears).
Aliasing brush = brush that creates a jagged, pixel-like effect.

Binary = numeral system that is expressed in only two modes (i.e. 1's and 0's).
Binary brush = a brush that paints in thick solid colour lines (though you can use any brush for this desu).

I'd like to see you do better. 5 minutes for sketching, 2 minutes for resizing and lining, and 2 minutes for cropping, resizing, and publishing. Like I said, it was a quick demonstration, so I didn't spend much time on it since it's only purpose was to show the brushes and resizing process.

I got started by doing spritesheet edits for fun in my early teens. Nothing beats a shitload of practice.
I didn't really get good at pixel art in general until recently, though, by copying (not tracing) other artists since I'm shit with a tablet.
I'm much more comfortable working at tiny resolutions, but I could definitely improve a lot if I started downscaling larger sketches.

Eh it's just the first real presentation at a general ed community college public speaking course I had to take because there were no other options by the time I was able to sign up. The grade will be completely on the speech aspect of it. I just can't stand disappointing and lying to people. We're supposed to do a "how-to" demonstration using traditional aids but I have no discernible skills outside of lifting, running (which I can't do until next year due to an injury), worldbuilding and writing. Basically nothing you can realistically demonstrate using teaching aids so I decided to do pixel art because "dude just put pixels down lmao it'll take 5 minutes."
The picture turned out better than I expected so far but I was expecting to look at it and the blank canvas and have no fucking clue. I think I just need to simplify the shading, add some dithering since I mention it in the speech notes and clean it up. The teacher axed the ability to use the projector so I'm literally going to have to hold up printed out paper so people aren't gonna see the details as much as I thought they would. Everythings going to turn out fine but I'm still kind of flipping the fuck out.
