Why are western and japanese dragon designs so different?

The western seem to be more based on lizards and dinosaurs while the japanese designs go crazy.

If I had to guess... Because japanese dragons are different animals entirely, so when they take the exotic western dragon, they feel more free to break rules.

The Japs can basically just draw a ton of armor, jewelry and anything that is considered valuable or sacred, since they regard their dragons as deities.

Meanwhile in the west, were bound to the biological concept of dragons, basically it has to be a lizard, gigantic, it also has to have a dragonic head or something similar to a crocodiles mouth or other giant lizards. Technically they are just regarded as monsters or animals, meaning they tend to have more lizard like traits compared to the Japs.

I don't know, but that's my take i guess, correct me if i'm wrong.

Western dragons are based on how europe has portrayed dragons for centuries as greedy beasts that a hero needs to slay. Eastern dragons have been protectors and guardians.

You are wrong. Japs just do a lot more different shit with stylization. Burgerlanders basically can't stray from fucking DnD manuals or other popular representations of fictional monsters because westerners typically pursue making their art look more "realistic" in general.
Japan has more typical looking dragons like in Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, Berserk, Hell even in fucking what OPs cherry picking, yugioh.

but yugioh art at this point is so crazy it becomes a parody of itself mainly because it need to be shiny and colorful to catch the viewer eye on the small image card
similar how Warhammer models have big ass head gear to pop out from other unit but look ridiculous on art work
