I love this picture by Velazquez because

a) the skill level is sky high

b) it looks like 17th century concept art

I love this Venus by Velazquez because

a) The skill level is crazy, the ease with how the fabrics look painted, the soft line all around the body.

b) It shows that Spanish taste was for slim women, thus undoing the notion that olden days painters liked chubby women, or women modelled from men, with bolted on soft parts.

c) Cleverly sexy without being lewd or crude.
