I've read a lot on the topic but I'm no professional. The paper and the quality varies with the company but bristol is commonly thrown around but I think that's more of a historical thing than something still very much done by the big two. I could be wrong though.

Bernie Wrightson said that tissue paper was of higher quality than the stuff DC sent him but he didn't say more than that from what I remember. Dave Sim said that he had a hard time inking on the paper DC sent their artists, citing his difficulty in using his Hunt 102 on it, how it warps so heavily and the paper breaks up and pulps in the nib.

Dark Horse's paper is much better from what I've seen. Mike Mignola inks heavily and there doesn't seem to be much, if any, warping on his paper, but the pencils do dig in and stay in there a bit, and Mike has a light hand.

The size of the paper is around 11X17" but the live area, the bleed, and the rest of the paper varies but 9X13"=live area is a common element I've seen.
