Things you can do in digital that you can't in traditional and that fundamentally change the very idea of a sketch:
Erase flawlessly
Lay down masses of color instantaneously
Underlay a photo for easy referencing
Layers to control what can and cannot be seen and to what degree (bai bai construction lines)

>> No.3569349

>Erase flawlessly
Ok, fair enough. But as long as you're not pressing down like a gorilla, the marks usually doesn't show up that strongly anyways. And even so, they can be edited out digitally

>Lay down masses of color instantaneously
Almost all sketches here aren't even colored

>Underlay a photo for easy referencing
Very easy and practical to do with a light table (you get one for like 30 bucks, it's about the size of a digital tablet), I used to do ecorche anatomy exercises this way in the past.

>Layers to control what can and cannot be seen and to what degree (bai bai construction lines)
Also very easy to do with a light table. I used to construction studies like this, very useful.

you can sketch on tablet in the same way you do in a real sketchbook if you just avoid those features, and why would anyone lie about that here if its just anons looking for crit? Light tables just show that tablet advantages can be replicated pretty easily. If you can use the same tools on both then you can't validate one without validating the other

You can say the same for digital artists sketching using layers. What part of the word "sketch" involves digital layers? My point is that you can't really police that, even if you only allow traditional sketches to be posted, since layers can be easily simulated traditionally too.

Also, if you think light tables are huge massive hunks of an equipment that is inaccessible to most regular people and requires a lot of setup, maintenance & space, then you're wrong.
Modern light tables are extremely cheap, practical, slim and easy to use. See pic related.

Good stuff. Sketching with markers is always fun, they let you think about shapes in a way pencils/pens don’t cause the tip is so big. Those graphic shapes in the back help make the figures pop more too, I dig it.
I like the smoke you added, really helps give the page a sense of movement. Good work.

lose the inner outline of the shadow hatching. it doesn't do any good. also try to get a more regular hatching going, get more life in it, take the tip off the paper at the end of each line instead of doing tight zig-zags. the face and hair is well done. the crossing curvy line on the chest doesn't do any good.

Hell yes. It's great for shadows and hair, for example. Loving it.

Hatching could be better, but I like this.

>>3580287
I like how vivid the sketches look on ink (I usually sketch with pigment ink pens, and I'm thinking of buying a brush pen). Also, since I can't erase or correct mistakes, it's helping me build confidence on my lines. It sure helped me a lot with chicken scratching.

OP here, I just started doing it on a whim a year or so ago. I construct the solid form of all of the hair first, then determine the direction the hair takes. I add color/value by following the contours of the hair - using broad strokes at first, then gradually use a small brush/sharp point in some areas to show the texture. If you try to fill in hair with a very fine point, it's VERY easy to get spaghetti-hair. broad strokes emphasize the overall shape, and the fine ones show you the individual hairs. Fur works generally the same way.

Highlights and lighting/shadow follows the form it's applied to. the highlights in hair will be going the same "direction" as the hair(s) to which they apply.

It looks like shit with all those lines that remain after you erased it. Sketch light, only definitive lines should be hard and done in a single stroke so to make it readable. Watch Peter Han's dynamic sketching series.

As for design: read the fucking book, beware of tangents and simplify into simple shapes.

We all suck. When you feel the flow you forget about it and only focus on putting pen to paper. All of that other stuff fades away, no negativity, no comparing yourself to others, no doubting your abilities or wondering if you’re gonna make it. You just draw and let the flow guide you. If you do it properly then you won’t be concerned about how it looks while you are actually drawing, only after you are done.

This is awesome, I like it a lot
Love this kind of drawing, with lots of blank spaces and intermitent lines, and those concentrated spots of densely agglomerated lines, the well defined shadows, and the sense of greatness, the gigantic dimension
The only thing I dislike about it (and it's just personal taste, but I think it may be useful to say) is the skull-like structure in the bottom
I find human skulls in drawings to be kinda dull and unnecessary most of the time, the kind of stuff edgy teenagers would put eventhough it doesn't have any context at all just to make it moody, dark and desolated, just because it's so easy
There's literally no point in having a skull-like structure in a machine like this
And of course I'm not oblivious to aesthetics, but even as a visual element it actually takes away part of the mood of the drawing, because it's dislocated, it doesn't feel like it belongs in there
Anyway, keep drawing a lot, I like your style and concept
Good work

Well, I'd actually like for my art to look more edgy. I enjoy slapping some pointless aesthetics on sci-fi stuff so it would better represent the personality of its owners/manufacturers. After all in some anti-utopian future where countless galaxy-wide corporations compete at selling weapons of mass destruction there certainly gonna be some mecha equivalent of Razer keyboards.
As for that particular one, it's supposed to conquer some barbaric planets where flexing your edginess is just as important aspect of warfare as strategy and firepower.
