What is up with game/animation studios talking about how diverse they are? It's virtue signaling and contributes nothing to the actual production in question.
Speaking of diversity, I'm not seeing it despite their claims.
I see a bunch of fat chicks with the same glasses and a pseudo-anime-esque art style.
Normally I'm fine with a cast with different types of characters.
However, when their differences become the main focus of the show, they become one-dimensional and feel "forced" like they were just there to check off some diversity quota list.

Differences can make the story/ep interesting because it can emphasize their group paradigm and ability to work together while navigating different personal/technical issues each characters have.
The problem I'm thinking about is the over-emphasis on things like skin color or gender stuff. Those can be part of a character and make them unique.
But if it's the only thing they're about, then their importance in the show is limited and harder to stand out for the audience.
They become just some avatar for (minority group here) and alienate everyone else.

Its not my type of story, so I'll watch it when I have time. I do think its cool that they're making a show with a diverse cast, so I'm excited to see what comes of it.

The other way around works too. Plenty of foreign words have made their way into the Japanese language, and most of them don't mean the same as in their original languages.
For example, "Viking" バイキング means "Buffet" in Japanese.
"Delivery Health" デリバリーヘルス means "Calling a prostitute."
"Cunning" カンニング in English means skillful, sneaky, or something similar, but in Japanese it means "Cheating, Cheapskate"

They work well and are generally appealing enough to be adopted across productions. The problem lies in overuse of these measures, which is nothing to do with how much money and time is given to the animators, but the thought and skill put into the animation. Oh and OPM S1.

This is true to an extent, but it is mostly found in wave-riding mass-appeal sales driven anime like most LN adaptations, but those get criticized to such a colossal extent that the criticism of such has become unoriginal in itself.
