Hello ladies and gentlemen! (mostly gentlemen because its 4chan).
>my art, pic.
I'm in a need of assistance of a ballbusting (Art critique), what should I upgrade to be more successful as an Artist?
What would you recommend to do?

Secondary question:
What sites are good for sharing Traditional art?

nobody will answer. you're better at painting than 80% of ic. beautiful work btw, well done. you can try instagram/twitter/deviantart.

also i recommend you to study composition.

>> No.3564702

Work with wider canvases. These feel too cramped and mot as epic as they cpuld be.

>>3564701
Thanks I guess, I'm studying it now, hopefully, one day I'll master it on a decent level.

I'll need to have Instagram I guess, since I have accounts on the other sites but no Instagram yet.
I heard alot of artists praise Instagram... like "it changed my life!" and stuff.
>>3564702
Recently just bought 3 super big & wide canvases, gonna experiment with them soon, thanks for the advice.

Thanks, bros.

>> No.3564753

If you crop this picture lengthwise from the bottom the composition would look a lot better. The contrast and the shape of the waves efficiently and elegantly guided me to the ship and the darkness beyond it. Shame its not a wider canvas. Good job too.

>> No.3564854

-blend on the canvas less
-work on composition
-work on wider canvases
-try limited palettes, your color harmony is a bit jarring

most importantly though, draw and paint from life. Your paintings look good, but very kitschy. It's like I'm looking at any cheap seascape found in a seafood restaurant. This is because you're drawing your idea of waves and boats and clouds, which although fairly correct, do not have much in the way of unique detail. It's this unique detail that will step your paintings up a notch and cement them as lifelike in the minds of your viewers. I can tell the tree and rocks in 111222 aren't painted from an actual tree or rocks, it's just like you knew 'this combo of brush strokes gets me a tree'. As if you've watched bob ross too much.

Your waves look the same. It's just 'glowy area +contrast+foam=dramatic wave' but because you use the effect so much, it robs the waves of drama. additionally, some of your waves are glowing way too much for the amount of light that would actually occur in the given scene.

Also the boats/sails in
>>3564674
are a similar or lighter value than the sky. they ought to be in shadow.

Thank you for the analysis.
I'm thinking now about what you said and hopefully, I will upgrade some aspects.

>> No.3565208

Anon is pretty spot on, especially about rendering details in the right places to lead the eye. It's a little too Thomas Kinkaide meets Lisa Frank right now. If you use more muted tones, your brighter colors will pop more without it being overwhelming.

>> No.3565416

(a little bit off-topic)
>Thomas Kinkaide meets Lisa Frank

That's actually a pretty big compliment for me.
But I think the people you mentioned, their biggest Talent is actually (the marketing), not just the artwork.
Thier marketing level is just unbelievable. I don't even know how to think to get atleast 4% of the fame they have, desu.

>> No.3565469

>>3565416
You're not there yet, don't get your panties in a bunch around that boner unless you paint it and send it to me.

The marketing is (((easy))) once you get to that level. You have to be capable of doing it, but it's all about writing the right description of your work and convincing some gallery owners that it will sell. Gurney and Kinkaide wrote a really good book on sketching together before they were famous, they both got some training the average anon isn't used to. I'm guessing it includes some of this.

>I'm guessing it includes some of this [link].

Wow, there's a whole science behind it! It even scares me.

>>3565517
I'm self-taught, I did alot of experimenting with oil paint, now I guess its about 10 or 8 years.
Most of the resources were just misleading so I tried to make my own style just by experimenting. I looked up to legends like Aivazovsky and wanted to learn his style.

but If you have a plan to learn oil painting, probably the best thing you can do for free is watching "Igor Sakharov" on youtube, you will not understand the language, but its ok, as long as you see what he does it should be enough.

>> No.3566703

You got good at copying Aivazovsky's water but your ships look like shit.

>> No.3566723

>>3564670
The value/composition could use some work, the boat gets absorbed too much into the backgrund, whereas that smaller wave right below it pops out even though there's nothing going on with it. Basically, there's a light patch moving from top right to bottom left and the boat is not even contrasted against it, it's just kinda shoved in the side of the image like an afterthought.
>>3564672
In this one the composition feels stiff, you have four same sized blocks converging in the middle but the boat is so tiny that it might as well not be there. You can't even see it in the thumbnail. Something needs to dominate the image.
>>3564674
The shape languange is all over the place and the color palette is kitschy. You need to let the image breathe, it looks cramped. The best piece is easily >>3564671 because you kept it simple. The only thing I'm not sure about is having those dark spots at both the top and the bottom. Try blocking either with your finger and compare to what you went with.

My own works are the images I posted up there.
I am not sure what do you mean, but Aivazovsky said that he didn't like to paint from real life. he painted mostly from memory.

That's a good thought, and I'm sure that this particular way might be fruitful, and will have decent results on the meme websites, however, there's a big chance that it will not be sellable, it's hard to imagine someone buying on eBay Acrylic paintings of meme-faces.
U feel me?

Also, my inner fire, my desire is the colorful oil paintings of seascapes/landscapes. (at least for now, dunno about the future).

>>3568395
For now, my stronger side is the coloring, not the perspective/shape. (I evolve slowly) that's why I'm here. asking for ballbusting. :P
Comparing to the decent Painters on the web, I'm not so good, and I know it.
