You know what people really think? Illastrat's art has merits but still has flaws. It's not fully grown yet. It's not fully polished and refined yet. It's because he believes himself to have already made it and on par with the masters.

Illastrat needs to adopt a mindset of learning. Right now he's in his own world. A big fish in a small pond.

Don't get me wrong. Illastrat's art has merits. It's good. But it's not fully mature. It's not fully realized. It's not the best of the best, yet. It has great potential. Potential is everything. People born with potential will make art that's actually got substance and meaning.

However Illastrat as of now won't learn. He can't see himself in the mirror and realize that he's residing in a small pond as a big fish. There are sharks and whales out there in the bigger ocean.

It's not a weakness to admit one's flaws.

I consider myself a student and a learner forever. I am my teachers' student forever. Illastrat too can be a student. It only takes a different mindset to become a student and a learner.

Also, I started painting 6 years ago. In my endeavors you can see a progression and solidification of style. Before, I was inconsistent, messy, and naive. I have gotten extremely consistent, controlled and my eye is a lot more refined. In my art, there is such a deliberate consistency that you can say I am rapidly approaching mastery. The only critique outside the confines of my style is a generic one—I paint in abstraction and stylization. Notice, people agreed, I am not a master, but I am far from novice. Your only incredulous critique is that it’s not realistic or classical. That is unwarranted.
