Just a few random thoughts that might make this work better:

+ I think the values could use a little tweaking. In particular, I think you can utilize better values to help differentiate the foreground (front 2 buffalo) and the mid ground (predator, mountain & buffalo). You can do this by lightening up the midground so the front 2 buffalo really pop.

A small but important addition here would be the slightly lighter background on the far right to help give that buffalo a better silhouette, thus creating more contrast and giving that area a little more purpose in the composition while still keeping it dark. There's a buffalo there - really show it. I think this is important because the far right is currently a bit of a muddy mess that's hard to read and an overall useless area. You might as well crop it out.

In simpler terms - there's too many blacks; you need to separate things a bit more.

+ Consider adding a bottom rim light to the figure. It really wouldn't seem totally out of place, given that stampedes are pretty dusty (which dissipates light), and it could really add to the intensity of the scene and the intimidation of the predator. Overall I think it could really help things 'pop' a bit more.

+ I know it's a WIP, but I'm hoping you'll be adding some sort of dirt / kickback from all the feet tearing up the ground. For the dust - I recommend playing with a mix of soft and sharp edges.

I hope this makes sense. I'm a little stoned. Looks great regardless!

This looks like it was shot in a TV studio. Like you can see the edge of the room because the trees just stop and then there's a grey wall. That's an issue.

Also - you're gonna have to buckle down and just redo the figure. I'm sure it seems like a pain in the ass, but it has to be done. Reason being that - as it currently is - the person seems be firing off way to the left and not at all in the direction of the hare, so much so to the point that it's jarring. Like - what's he shooting at? It's definitely not the hare. You can solve this by finding a better reference of a person shooting from this general angle. If you can't find a good one, trying making your own by mocking up a figure in Design Doll or something similar to help give you a better idea of what a figure would look like from this particular angle, shooting at that particular spot.

I saw you thought your piece suffers from a bad thumbnail. I think you can fix this by:
1.) Increasing the size of the figure in the foreground significantly. If not, at least crop the top 1/3 of the composition, as it really isn't serving any purpose.
2.) Separating the foreground from the midground by darkening the foreground and slightly lightening the midground.
3.) Adding a rim light to the right part of the figure & tree - there's presumably light shafts in this forest, so it's not unreasonable to have there be another area of light off canvas providing the rimlight.
4.) Adding a light shaft and overall gradient coming down from the sky to the midground.

Hope this helps - I really like this!

Saludos.

The big issue that pops out to me is that the lighting is completely inconsistent and all over the place, which makes everything feel disconnected. It's almost hard too look at. This is especially true in his right (our left) arm - there's no reason there should be such a harsh shadow on it. The shadow even changes completely between the arm and the hand.

This is an issue across the whole thing.

I'm afraid to say, you basically destroyed the composition. In your pic my eyes go first to the mostly black rock at bottom, then I see the one furthest away in the distance but due to the atmospheric perspective the lowered contrast means lowered interest. The most eye-catching details are in the rocks to the right but the way they are positioned (shoved to the side) makes it really hard to treat them as the point of interest of the painting. This is why others felt like something was missing.
Meanwhile, in the original picture my eyes go to the amazing details of the lower half then gradually they approach the more distant formation until my sight gets lost in the clouded horizon. The sense of scale is greatly enhanced by having a massive foreground and 5 distinct blocks (as opposed to yours remaining 3).

tl;dr you can't just go and crop a photo. Although you did a good job choosing a part that has nice overall value contrast.

Thanks for the feedback. This is the first real landscape ive done and i dont know anything about good composition. What is a better way to go about things for my next painting? I agree that the rock formation in the foreground is distracting and i didnt really plan on including that part when i started. Should i just make an effort to balance the focal points next time?

Yeah and also be careful about the relative compositional "weight" of your stuff: the foreground and the farthest rock while they are different in value, which is good, their sizes are almost the same and that's a big no-no, it kills the dynamicity of the painting. If you have 3 "blocks" try to have a big medium and a small one, unless you're doing something with symmetry/negative space.

There are two things that bother me: one is that her waist is not parallel to the ground, I think you wanted to show that, since her right leg/arm is not sustaining her, the weight is pulling her down. But given how unrealistic this creature is I think it would be ok for her to have perfect balance even while standing on one limb; the second thing is, what is she doing with her right hand? She gives me sphinx vibes, so I guess she is gesticulating while speaking in riddles or something but honestly it looks more like a "what the hell man" hand gesture than anything else to me. Not sure how it would work with the overall design/concept but maybe including some kind of mudra would benefit the storytelling. Otherwise I guess you could put something in her hand? But then she would have problems walking.
Also I guess I don't like the corset, I think the naked doll body was better, although I can understand including the skin to add value contrast.
Still the rendering is extremely fappable.

learn to draw noses, because that isn't it. there shouldnt be a line extending from the nostrils.

furthermore, your nose is off center. the septum should align with the chin and philtrum.

your lips are symbolic and strange. actual lips aren't that long, and don't have that "smiley face" dimple thing you have going on. they're also way too low on the face.

eyes are asymmetrical. her right eye appears to be drooping. it should be even larger, considering that her eyebrow is raised.

is she supposed to be raising one eyebrow, or is this eyebrow just floating away? eyebrows are anchored to facial anatomy. her face should deviate from that blank porcelain stare. the other eye should squint. there should be creases on her forehead. think of the eye area as a bag of water. when one end is crushed, the other expands.

The breasts are facing away from the body. the middle of the breasts should line up with the belly button and clavicle.

in my opinion, they're also too big to be cute. is this part of the 'cow person' gimmick?

you have a serious style problem. you have extremely accurate core and cast shadows, but you're using black lines. when you get to the level of rendering that you're at, lines look strange and surreal. you're using them as a crutch and it's time to abandon them. your skill will improve rapidly if you do.

you don't know how to draw hair. go on a wig website or Instagram and draw some real hair.

good luck

First: stop samefagging. Seriously, the exact 60 seconds of diference between your post is a dead giveaway. You think you slick.
Second: look at your favorite anime artists and mangakas, pay attention to how they know their shit when it comes to drawing a muscular dude. That's because they studied their shit and know what they're doing, I'm not telling you to stop drawing anime, but also study your fundamentals if you want to improve your anime (so do like the other anon said, read the sticky bla bla bla Loomis bla bla bla)
Third: no, the right leg did not come out decently. You fix it by knowing how a leg works and looks 3dimentionally at the most basic level.
Fourth: don't stress it too much, judging by your posts and the fact that you think you're hip and cool by drawing edgy nazi anime girls, you're probably like between 12 and 16 at most. So don't worry, if you keep drawing consistently and studying, you'll git gud,
But maybe consider dropping the nazi lolis. It's cringy.
...if you're not actually 12 to 16 and you have read the sticky, I'm very sorry for you. There's no fixing.

This >>3553126 pretty much. A background shouldn't be such a complete afterthought or considered something that's not important - it's most definitely part of the image and will affect your (and the viewers) perception of the colors. Even something as simple as a colored background to compliment / work with the colors in the portrait would help a lot. One of the biggest benefits is that you start to create a distinct color palette for the piece instead of having it be muddy (which it is now).

Another major issue that is sort of related is that the range of values within the colors is very limited, which contributes to the timidness and muddiness and does little to help describe the form.

I attached one example of a direction this could go in to avoid muddy, bland colors. I simplified the colors / values just for the sake of illustrating how a better range of values can help create a better form.

If thats the case firing a gun which requires a rather lengthy period of reload without having at least 15 other guns at his back and a rosary behind belt and garlic hanging from neck, seems like a rather fucking stupid thing to do.

Maybe he fired up the lint but then reflexed on implications of firing at a fucking demon and not to piss him off unloaded his gun sideway.

Eitherway, a smart thing to do given the circumstances.

I think you got good lines especially in the hair. I think you should use the same line width in the hair in the rest of the face cause the face is really thin lines. It would be good to keep them consistent. also the mustache is really flat. don't focus on the lines inside the mustache, but think about the contour. If you really exaggerated the mustache contour ( pushing it outside the contour of the face) you'll get that 3d effect you'r looking for!

This is extremely boring because I haven't added the characters yet, but I wanted to have a clean BG slate for this image.

Thanks, I couldn’t figure out how to make the nose look like it was sticking out like the cats head was tilted up or the right shading so I sort of finished it early to move on to something else.

tried to draw with a larger brush as a single brush size challenge, the forms look messy but I like the general tone of the drawing

don't do the shading dents on the boobs, it makes them look hollow. also get rid of ribcage line. also learn more anatomy, but you knew that.

Maybe. there may be too many competing elements (reflection, texture, lighting, the outside) that make it just kinda muddy. I was having some trouble with it while working on it. Maybe I can tweak it when I add the characters.

This is irritating to look at.

Great idea, setting and rendering for the most part, but the uncompelling pose throws me off.
