use references for things you cant get to look right, and study construction to learn more about how those refs work
(example- copying a shoulder muscle, then studying how said muscle actually works). for construction, i really like Michael Hampton's books. but any number of teachers mentioned on /ic/ will do.

but the most important thing for you now is to draw often. don't kill yourself with studies- there's no point to getting good if you grow to hate the process

But yeah, that pose makes no sense. I don’t have a feeling for what is happening here. Also, the shield seems oversized and not nearly as neat as the rest. Since this guy is a hero who I presume you want to move dynamically, have you considered dropping the fullsized shield for a small Parma style shield? Will be more weldly for a hero.

I finished this after slacking off on it for way too long. The face could've turned out a lot better and I overdid it with the filters but overall I'm happy with the rest of the rendering.

Tried making a more complete picture of an OC. She's supposed to be a really weird demon creature so its hard to settle on a design I want for her.

1. Ditch the symmetry mode. There's nothing wrong with using it if you actually want symmetry, but if you're drawing a person, you almost certainly don't.
2. Crop excess whitespace out of your image before posting.
3. Loomis etc. Learn anatomy, git gud, all that stuff.

I tried out small brushes with ink. I don't think I'm very good at it, but it's really fun.

Drew Kirby since he's relatively easy to draw. One of the first works since I picked up a pen. Drawn digitally. I don't have much experience with pixel art, but I think you should probably either get rid of the outline, or use an outline which isn't black (probably a darker version of the colour you are trying to outline)

Understand the forms, not the contours.
Construct her from shapes, learn gesture drawing to proportion better and push the pose to greatness. Also check out the loomis head method.
Doing what I've instructed will change your art ability for the better. Use charcoal and newsprint for practice and work from the shoulder.
