Is studying photos like pic related going to help me become good at drawing sexy/cute stuff?
I used to draw fantasy stuff like elves and shit, but it seems I can't grow in popularity as the fantasy genre is kinda cliche.
And I dislike literal smut/furry shit, so cute Instagram like models drawn in artsy style seems like my most safe way. Anyone drawing similar stuff, that can vouch of his process for studying?

It has bad and flat lighting so no.

If you're just after the style then you're better of studying and copying already popular artist.

Try to stalk them in social media if they stream art or post sketches If you go for anime, the way they sketch and construct is the most important bit you can steal from them.

Second to that is rendering and color but if your lines doesn't hold it doesn't matter how much you prettify it with rendering.

if you want to be a sakimichan clone then yes
however compositionally speaking (even for pin up) this photo suck ass (cut off at the knee is bad composition and the framing in general sucks itd be better if the legs were fully visible or not at all). i also draw cute girls for practice so just keep in mind when finding references they are not just cute girls but cute girls in appealing compositions. it will help you get better at drawing cute girls but your compositions will be better to which leads to more appealing pin up.

Yes. There's no other way to get good at drawing something from imagination than to study it first. Drawing is a craft so that means studying is done by hand, not theory crafting. This is logic on a fundamental level.

Anybody who tell you not to copy photos for studying have not clue as to what they talk about and are just relaying info that they don't understand the context of. You should probably not listen anything they have to say when it comes to drawing.
