I've been trynna find anything by Sergio Toppi online for ages or in local comic stores and can't find anything. I've scavenged through old torrent sites, comic stores in 4 different countries, and no luck. Any anon that can help out?

Never found this kind of stuff particularly impressive. Whether or not it was traced or heavily referenced (which it most likely was), it feels completely sterile and lifeless compared to other "realistic" works like >>3535186

Asano Inio starts with a location and takes most if not all of the photos himself, filters them then inks over the top to add nuance. Stylistic characters are intentionally juxtaposed against the realistic background. I don't see an issue with it if im to look at it as someones creation as hes very much directing the entire image, camera angle, location, when to use backgrounds are all his choice.
It's one thing to approach an image from someone elses photo and starting there, its another thing to do that yourself.

Another recent English translation is Jerome K. Jerome Bloche, really beautiful comic I was fortunate enough to read when it ran in a Swedish comics anthology. It hasn't been published much outside of France. Only the first two volumes have been released so far though.

For SOL it does the job perfectly, you have to take into account the genre/theme of the story itself. Of course if Vagabond which has a lot of fighting scene does that it would look boring, but realism is always appreciated in a slice of life.

Everytime something gets reprinted some one decides to fuck the colors up royally. Not sure why this it's so common. Makes it a pain to have to find old copies of Rocketeer or Sandman or the Killing Joke. At least they ditche the horrible re-color in the latest printing of Incal.

This looks cool. Interestingly in Sweden we had a comic run in a comics anthology about the Childrens' Crusade by the same name about 3 years earlier. I couldn't find my copies of the magazine last I looked for them, but I'll try to track down the issue it ran in and scanslate it some day (as well as his comic Mystiska 2:an which I've collected most of the issues of). It's the last comic ever published by Rolf Gohs, a definite master of the craft. His comics usually have some pretty strange pederastic undertones to them which led to publishers not wanting to publish his work, and we haven't seen much from him since the 80s. Although this ran in 2002.

Howard Chaykin's work on The Scorpion and American Flagg! are some really good shit. It's so far out there with how different and genius it is. A good analysis and reading of the first dozen or so of American Flagg! will always be fruitful for any aspiring comics artist. Other kinds of artists might find something of interest in his work too.

I always assumed that frank miller coloured his own dark knight comics.
