IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

The line that goes from the small toe to the tarsal should also not go that far to the left. It's one of the toe tendons and they end in the space between fibula and tibia. In your drawing it almost moves to the inner ankle. The bump between the outer ankle and the fleshy foot periphery (which almost looks like a sixth toe in the plate and your drawing, but it's made up of sole muscles connecting to the small toe) behind the small toe is the extensor digitorum brevis which moves under the former tendon but doesn't connect to the small toe but to the second right one.

Those landmarks are certainly not wrong, but a bit spartan. Yet sufficient if you know how to fill up the blank space with anatomy. In the end, you'll have to add more landmarks and structures anyway if your goal is a finished drawing. So, it doesn't matter if you add them to your skeleton right away or later. You'll still have to know what goes where.
Keep in mind that the "spine" isn't really correct if you use it as an anchor point for the actual spine.

I'm not sure I understand how to go about effectively practicing and learning. If my understanding is correct I need to replace the symbols in my mind with functional forms, ie three dimensional shapes. In order to do that I should be practicing construction, right? Yo friend. I felt like. Truly.
I'm 24 and just like one year ago I was diagnosted a HDAD (Attention deficit hyperactivity).
This saved me, bro. I was just about to quit History school because I was certain that I was just dumber than everyone. High school was already hard (and I did 1st year twice) but somehow I managed to pull it off - getting in college was 2 parts "right-place-right-time" luck and one part merit. Finishing college was just impossible.
Being a HDAD is tricky. You're not stupid or mentally retarded - you just have trouble focusing on stuff thus remebering them later (even if that's REALLY interesting and you want to learn), theorically or pratically. And people will never undersant that besides thinking you're just lazy or irresponsible.
Go see a doctor and get you and exam. Some people take controlled pills for that (I take one ritalin a day), some people need B12 vitamin in pills (also related to attention and learning), a friend of mine takes pills for stop smoking because it keeps you confortable under your skin so you don't feel you need to smoke (ends up helping a lot).
It's alright my friend.

The negative space of the image is the part of the image you haven't drawn in. Because it's something that results from your drawing, rather than being what you're drawing intentionally, studying it can be a useful way of checking your drawing. It's usually most obvious when there's a whole formed by the drawing, which isn't the case here (other than the space between the hand and body) so I'm not sure why other anon emphasized it, but you can see for example that the shape formed by the negative space to the (viewer's) left of the head is wildly different in your drawing and the original.

Hey guys, maybe you can help me out with something

I'm trying to rediscover my love for drawing.

Back in high-school I used to doodle all the time whatever would come to my mind and loved it. At some point, as I felt the pressure of growing up, I thought that maybe I could/should turn this silly doodling into some kind of real skill, but shortly after trying to learn how to draw for real, I lost all the love I had for drawing and stopped all together.

I finished college now and I barely drew for those 4 years, but now I slowly starting to get back into it - how do I not loose the love for drawing and even learn to love it more? Did anyone else experience something similar before?

Well for starters, he is not learning at all.
If i had to guess i would say he only or most of the time doodles on copy paper.
If he really want to change his learning he should start with forms and linequality. Next he should do perspective. cubes spheres and stuff like that.
When he's done with that. and i mean at least good enough to draw a cube where the lines connect like in >>3533427

Pick a classical palette of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna and go at it. You'll figure out the rest along the way. Other pigments in the same range are optional substitutes and work well. >draw trees

The artbook thread has a beginner essentials pastebin you can dig through to find shit everyone pretty much agrees is good. More important than your choice of course is whether you're spending adequate time with your fundies (line quality, forms, value, perspective, etc), so try to find stuff that teaches you those and practice that shit literally every single day no matter what you draw

Honestly if you're a pure beginner it's a lot like exercise where even if you fuck around a bunch you'll still make progress for a little while, so whether it's bargue plates or whatever else just pick something and stick with it

Here's the checklist I made to try and keep me focused:

Observe subject.
Notice where the center of the subject is.
Draw a line for the verticle midsection of the face and horizontal section for the eyes.
Measure how wide face is compared to how long. Use blind contour to establish initial width.
In between this and every following step, check for accuracy. Sit back, turn paper around, take measurements.
Lightly sketch outlines of features.
Outline the shadows, midtones, and highlights.
Lightly add details.
Fill by drawing in direction of the form.
Blend.
Go heavy on details.
If using toned paper, use white pencil for highlights.
