I'm in an endless cycle of postponing practice I need to do. Its always fucking tomorrow. I feel like a slave of my stupid distractions. Cant bring my self to do one drawing anymore. What the fuck do I do?

I struggle with the same thing, but it helps to have the a place ready to draw where pencil and paper is ready for you. Sometimes you have to focus on starting a lot of quick studies instead of focusing on highly polished pieces to get going. Steve Huston had this piece of advice for beginners that they should focus on starting a drawing instead of finishing one and remembering that helped me to get started. It's still a struggle though, I can easily default to doing nothing at all, being useless and feeling bad about it.

I was like that for 10 years. What's happening is that you are being a faggot because [reasons]. I found that if I reduce the activity to simply making a single line on a piece of paper, I usually ended up making a few doodles before quitting. So just do the absolute minimum and if that's too much, it's simply not going to happen. ONE LINE. That's all you have to do.

this. draw one line a day until you can draw 2 lines, and progress from there. youve trained your brain to distract yourself instead of starting, and now youre afraid of starting. you need to condition your brain into doing things without too much thought or doubt, even if the thing is as minimal as drawing 1 line a day. start today.

There's a saying that goes,
Fail fast.
Fail enough time so you know wtf you're doing wrong in hopes that you'll find what's good sooner rather than later.

There are people on DeviantArt with 1000+ submissions, all bad, and they have followers and art friends, but more importantly are happy. In that sense they have a fulfilling relationship with art, even though they are objectively terrible. I think this is incredibly motivating. There's no pressure. Create, put your shit out there, and enjoy the process. If you do it mindfully you'll get better

You don't have to do anything. It's a natural part of artistry, most artists have a point where they only make two or three paintings in a year or stop making art all together. Two schools of thought 1) work through it, force yourself , it will pay dividends. 2) Don't waste your time, drink beer, what for the genuine inspiration.

Dammit anon, you're hard to love but you're harder to hate.

if you're not trying you're already failing, so don't not try because you're afraid of failure. Imagine in 5 years from now if you ask yourself 'did I fail at becoming an artist?", if you just put it off because you were afraid you'd fail, you almost certainly failed anyway. What's the worst that could happen if you try and fail? You make a bad drawing and you get a tiny bit better for next time, as opposed to not making a drawing at all and not learning a thing.

Anyway, take baby steps if you need to. Work your way up. Push yourself to draw for 20 minutes, I find 20 min is short enough that even if it feels like pulling teeth you can get it over with, and oftentimes you might end up on a roll and going longer. Ramp it up as you go.

Procrastination has a way of making something progressively more intimidating to start the more you put it off, but once you just dip your toes a lot of the pressure and anxiety comes off. So find out the bare minimum you're willing to do and at the very least do that, even if it's negligible it'll be more than nothing.
