After getting really close to a drawfag girl I can say that it was the best but it's not just the fact that you share hobbies. I think theres more about the person itself.
She is also very talented and I learn a lot but being an artist doesnt instatly make you a nice person, sadly.
Of course I felt i was missing a half afterwards

But just dont get someone because of their hobby, if she happens to be an artist then it's a plus.

Tell him his ability shouldn't determine his self-worth, because thats a losing stance to get into. Esp. in art where anything you do can be mediately weighted against the biggest masterpieces of all time by anyone with eyes.

He needs to put his self-worth into his convictions instead and make peace with the fact that nothing he does will be good for the next x years. its not reflecting your soul in a mirror, its a craft. Tell him to stop being vain and be like Hokusai.

I'm not saying this to be demeaning to women btw, I just think however talented and hard working women are, it's men's obligation to be more talented and more hard working somehow. Women don't want to mate with someone who is inferior to them, no matter how great they are, they always want their man to be better. If women are painting like Claude Monet all of a sudden, it's our societal obligation as men to do better, or we don't deserve to procreate with them. Women set the pace in my opinion.

expertise and authority are a huge motivating factor for women to be with someone. The difference in millennial generations is trying to foster a patriarchal society that isn't toxic and rapey, but nurturing and supportive, both for the men and women in it. The motivating factor for men to succeed will always be women, it just has to start being for women in a positive way and not in a negative way. Equality isn't fair to women in my opinion, and leaves men unsatisfied with their lives. Women want to feel like they have a man in their life that can take care of them and support them, regardless of if the woman works at McDonalds or is on the Supreme Court. They want their man to be better than them in some way they find aspirational to their life. Something they want to be but either don't have the time or energy to pursue. Men are attracted to appearences, women are attracted to expertise.

we're both aiming for pro, i'm way ahead of her, already getting work. she's worse than /beg/ tier, won't put in the effort and has no work ethic, but still gets jealous/depressed that she's not good enough.

i think this kind of dynamic would work if both are at the same level artistically, and with the same work ethic, or the shit one in the relationship is secure in themselves being just a hobbyist. unmotivated 'future professionals' make the worst romantic partners

I used to think the same, but then it's really something else when you find someone who you can vibe with.

When I met my boy, he was worse at art than me but he was really pleasant to be around. Now he's better than me IMO, though I am the one who used to critique and redline his stuff. My boyfriend is the closest friend I had and eventually became a backbone for me as a person and an artist when I can't help myself.

Before my boo, I used to think I would be happy with someone who was cute, not crazy, and doesn't think too hard about anything. Didn't even have to be an artist or even read, and I was wary of dating artists anyway. But if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have known how much happier and better my life (and art life) could be. He's gone at the moment and after having someone like that by you for years, it's suddenly as if a part of your heart and brain is missing. When I draw, read, or analyze film, my studies seem imcomplete somehow without sharing it with my bf. Right now I am coloring my bf's lineart and feeling like crying.

The right person for you is so personal that it doesn't matter whether or not your boo is an artist or a pleb in the big picture.

Lol thanks. I kinda am grieving even though he's not dead. Right now he's in boot camp for a couple months (it HAD to be during summer, of course) and in Russia they can't even receive letters from their families. Once he's on a base he won't get to keep a smartphone so it's going to be a while until I can hear from him. He was progressing pretty well and we became an item only for a couple months before he was conscripted. He won't be able to draw, go to school, or improve as he wants for the year that he's gone and we've had some heart to heart about the military life (I am US military) and what we want to do after we're done with service.

Now I am just waiting for him to come back so we can draw together side-to-side towards gonnamakeitland

I have a qt gf who can draw but now that I'm working my way up the artistic ladder, it bugs the fuck out if me how little she puts into it and still expects to get a lot out of it. She wants to do animation eventually but doesn't want to practice things she doesnt like like landscapes ans maybe draws something every few weeks and only when she happens to be over and I'm already drawing. I hope to surpass her and help guide her to true heights.

Yeah sure, if you're gonna end there. Sycra got me started really learning how to draw in high school. Yeah, if I stopped there I wouldn't have the skills I do now but he's a good teacher for anyone starting out.

Women shouldn't have careers anyway during their child bearing years. You should be impregnating them. Let her get a job nannying after menopause and the 4 kids move out.

On the bright side, gives killer blowjobs though, and we're both working professionals as illustrators now.
