How can you learn to paint like Amano-san? Mostly interested in his color approach and how guides the viewer via shapes

I mean, you CAN learn, but it's complicated. Amano has a lot of influences at play in his work, from baroque and impressionist, to sumi-e and art art nouveau. It's a really original look and no one quite does it like him.

What I do think is important if you wanna try and approach Amano's style is to get some experience with classical techniques and forms, and then slowly work towards a similar custom.

There's no simple answer, or step by step instructions. He took inspiration and experience and developed a style, and put the time in to develop it. His work draws from different types of style that you can delve into, like art nouveau, artist like William Rackham, Blake, even Klimpt, a little.

This is what you spend years on developing as an artist, experimenting with form and color until you start getting work that satisfies you, and interests you in pursuing. Deconstruct his work, study color, color composition, and visual composition, and start applying the ideas in your work. Do it a lot.

How do you paint like him? Be him. Or see if he's every given talks or written about how he sees art and puts his work together.

Fucking love Amano's style.
You have to be brain dead to call him a rip off though. He draws on his influences, personal tastes and sense of aesthetics and really runs away with it to a far greater levels.
Someone no one mentioned but reminds me of Amano is Kay Nielsen, with the whole decorative and use of negative space thing.

he's not a mere pro artist though, but unironically a grandmaster. People easily forget that since they usually only come across some of his very speedpaint-like, lightweight illustrations. He is a master of many styles, even though the FF ukiyo inspired style is his main.

I think you just haven't been willing to absorb him wholeheartedly. This pseudo ukiyo style is very rare these days, but his mastery of shapes, dynamics and colors transfers over into any style and media.

He was a sensei for quite a few successful nip artists, including Yoshida Akihiko.

it was a bit confusing, since there was talk about a movie/or anime accompanying the trailer, but a couple years afterwards no info is to be found. Perhaps the video was just an introduction to the novel, to celebrate the release of Amano's first personal work/novel.

the novel is out and has 300 pages, 200 are illustrations. https://www.amazon.com/Deva-Zan-Yoshitaka-Amano/dp/1616550309

although, according to myanimelist, there is a forum discussion about episode 1, but can't open the thread for some reason.
