That's my problem. I thought I was depressed because I was being too hard for myself, but looking back I feel like I improved lots in the past month and I'm not as stuck as I was before. I feel ok about my work. I worked hard and it's getting better, as it should be.

Chuntao here, working on an IT degree + certs so I'm just gonna probably stick to the discord and get advice there. As many have said before for their situations, /dad/ served a purpose for me in drawing daily and the only days I have missed have been either when I'm traveling or during holidays so no point to keep a streak just to lose it when I travel again. Not to dissuade you even further, anon, but I initially went to pursue a fine arts degree, but switched to computer science when I realized "starving artist" was just not for me. On the one hand, I now make more than everybody in this infograph except for the voice actress. On the other hand, my art hasn't improved a whole lot since high school.

Seriously, we all love art, or we wouldn't be here. The grim reality of it, though, is that we're going to need to pay the bills sooner or later. If you can do that with your art, that's amazing - no, it's *astounding*! It's way better than I could ever do. I'm a much better computer programmer than I am an artist, so I pay the bills with that, and draw in my "free time" when I can.

My best guess on this was that it is some kind of external comparison - that maybe they're contrasting the lowly salary of an animator with something prospective future employees (those currently in college) could relate to. Go talk to your customers ... the users who will benefit from what you do. If you take a hundred of them, you might find a handful (and not always among the management, which only provides further evidence that Dilbert is actually a documentary) who would even have the capacity to wrap their heads around the concepts behind what you do on a daily basis "with very little effort". It'd be an entirely different plane of reality - like trying to explain to your grandmother how to use an iPhone.

well yeah, I got problems like everybody else, but I find that most people dealing with these type of things can handle it okay, while I shut down and lose all motivation in a second. I am invested in my life (I think? I try?) but most of my problems I just can't fix them, I just have to continue to do what I'm doing now and hope it will help to build a better future. And the stuff I love became routine now, so it's not that exciting anymore, or maybe I'm just too sad to enjoy them.

What I meant was, if YOU are not handling those things okay, then you're not ok. You're the only one who can determine what's making you happy and what's not. You cannot be dependent on the kind of lucidity depression provides to judge your life, it's a vicious circle. Mental health is a real thing too. Practice your will would be my advice, as in exercise it and train it, as a part of your body. But I'm no clinician, and that's nothing beyond feeling better anyway
