His fundamental weaknesses are poor compositional skills - his work is always just so, so stiff. More than anything though, he often squanders his skills on generic fantasy pinup drawings of sexy women. He has the tastes - as you put it - of a teenager.

On canvas you easily can make any kind edges with one brush. In digital you can't. Even blending in special programs with special brushes is not same as blending on canvas. You don't control anything at 100%. You're shackled by settings, brush engines, textures and other things. Even cintiq don't give you "that feels". And nothing, absolutely nothing stops you from not using any digital only tools. Some artists draw everything on one layer with limited CTRL+Z. And let's not pretend that canvas is so special. Dave Rapoza for example used to mention on his stream how back when Ruanjia was first posting his stuff on the conceptart forums, it was a wake-up call for every western professional just how much difference in skill there was between them and Ruanjia. Nathan Fowkes mentioned Ruanjia several times as example of incredible color harmony and handling of color and light in his schoolism classes. Jaime Jones and countless other pros used to favorite every image Ruan would post on cghub. There are many industry professionals who do studies of Ruanjia paintings. Krenz, a guy who is already better than you will ever be in 10 lifetimes recently took Ruanjia's classes because he felt he could learn from him. But of course, a shit tier beginner like you knows better than all of them! If only everyone else had as good of a taste as you do, so they could appreciate your work instead, but no one ever will.

And to add to this, and as is evident in the thread of all of ruans sketches, is he can't do ten lines. He can do ten thousand lines, but the basis for his drawings isn't good. He can't make ten lines look good, he can only hide his lack of subtlety behind what you guys like to call "rendering". His sketching skills are laughable. He couldn't do a simple drawing and make it look good, but you guys call him a "God" because it takes him a month on a single piece before his drawing starts to look like a person. That's not "godlike" that's fucking pathetic.
