People like a character for the character itself, but the character can fall short of a person's ideal for what they find sexually attractive. Of course for someone who does find the character's exact physical appearance attractive it can be easy to dismiss them with "they should just go for a character that fits the bodytype they like", but you should try to put more effort into really understanding their position without strawmanning them.
