The path of improvement can be very lonely, remember that you cannot take anyone with you. If you have an artist friend then at some point you will grow apart your ambition might be lower then theirs or theirs might be lower than yours. This is a journey you must take alone.

I have some art friends but since they don't really spend much time on their art in the end I feel very lonely too. I'm a very obsessive person and they don't really care much, so in the end is just me grinding a lot of extra time...

I feel like this is true for people who are serious about art. Hobbyists dont have to worry about this.

"Cope" is a misunderstood concept. In this case you are merely letting go of attachment to things you can no longer have. It isn't always a sour grapes rejection of something.

but most good artists have artist friends and co-workers they hang out with. You do realize that significant improvement ends at some point, right? Most people improve for 6-10 years, then they reach their peak and start making a living and have time to make friends in the industry, get married, have kids etc.

1960s comic book illustration by Frank Frazetta.
Western artists with an obsession with anime need to study more on stuff like this from western illustrators from 50 years ago who actually knew what they were doing.

I edited the statement because the second sentence was worded weirdly, and it's really bothering me. I hope it still retains the same message.
>The path of improvement can be very lonely. Remember that you cannot take anyone with you. At some point, you will grow distant from your friends because of the skills and ambitions you will or will not achieve. Either you’ll be too ahead of your friend that you can’t wait, or you’ll be left behind struggling to catch up. This is a journey you must take alone.

Sure there is always something new to learn or to exercise to stay sharp, but the major bulk of time that takes up learning the fundamentals of art will at some point be done. If you have sufficient intelligence and no learning disorder that is. There are no new muscles and bones and new rules of perspective being invented as we speak.

Improvement ,nowadays, has an end. A lot of these "Pros" only grind until they make it.Studying stops. I could name artists but it should be evident to you by looking a most artists gallery's

Karl Kopinski talked about this in one of these videos.

Gonna neckbeard a little here, because it's Frank. He got his start in comic books, but his paintings, like the one the OP posted, were book covers. He got most of his fame from them, especially the John Carter and Conan books. I think this one was for a collection of short stories.

The guy was a beast - he had a stroke and lost the use of his right arm, the one he painted with, and retaught himself to draw and paint with the left.
