Is stroke economy and layout the most underrated factor in having your work look professional?

Rendering is more important

If by stroke economy you are referring to clean looking linework and quick long strokes then I agree. IMO a good line drawing done wit minimal strokes often looks better than a fully rendered painting. To me this is because the line drawing looks effortless, and the rendered painting looks tryhard. Just my opinoin though

Doing both makes a good painter. Rendering impresses normies, economy impresses painters.

Despite this guys mocking tone, he's right. People here have a very narrow concept of painting processes. An under-drawing really only needs to exist for measuring and marking. To paint on a canvas covers your under drawing anyways, so besides digital art, a tight under-drawing isn't necessary and most progress is painting what you see over guide marks. It kills me that people here are so digital-centrist. Why not make something you can hold in your hands and feel under a brush.

There's hardly a difference.
