What're the best courses on NMA?

>> No.3436799

Either I'm a brainlet or pretty much every course I just can't wrap my head around. They're all old and can't relate to the struggle of the /beg/ - /intermediate/ artist. Steve Huston is an excellent artist but the way he explains and demos just goes over my head. 90% of his content is just rambling and writing words and then when it's time for him to draw he draws in an intimidating way.

I can never and will never understand vilppu. One minute you understand what he is saying and then the next he jumps steps in knowledge. Same with Karl G; only he is even worse. I can't stand that Legaspi guy, either.

The only teacher I fully understood on there is Olson. He is the only one who truly breaks things down very simply. The only reason I keep paying a sub is for the reference photos but if I ever find a way to rip everything easily then I'll unsub.

just really everything with steve huston. theres a few courses from vilppu too that are worth watching, like clothing for instace, that huston dont talk about. But im really about huston all the way.

>>3436799
well you are the brainlet. steve huston is an artist just as much as an illustrator. So he introduces you to the art world as well as motives/motivations behind doing art, and not just the getting down n dirty drawing stuff. If you really dont give a shit about that, i dont even know why you are looking at academy videos. maybe just watch some youtube vids instead that show you how to use the same method every time.

Rey Bustos - For anatomy
Karl Gnass - For gesture
Glenn Vilppu - For a more organic looking figure
Steve Huston - For a more structural looking figure
Danny Galieote - For master studies

The person I learned the most from is Rey Bustos. You just can't learn anatomy from books, someone has to actually draw them right in front of you.

Karl Gnass is a god of gesture drawings. You can't learn gesture from tutorials but it's good to see how someone with years of experience demonstrate it for you.

Take note:
This is from my point of view of 2 years ago. I think they've added more isntructors.

Karl Gnass and Bill Perkins. Also Vilppu and Huston are good too ofc.

Start out with Sheldon's 6 hour introduction, he likes to put on acts to keep newb listening so you might think he's crazy at first. Guys like Villpu and Steve comes later. There are other good ones too. Bill Perkins teaches stuff that will make you really good once you have the other stuff down.

Really? Villpu? Imo, I found his process the most forgiving among other figure drawing teachers. He starts out really rough and soft and builds up very gradually through out the construction process.

Olson can break things down very simply because he deals with very mathematical subjects, which is perspective. You can't deal with more complex organic forms like the figure and portrait with the same amount of rigor as him. You just need to learn to deal and embrace uncertainty more, start trusting your instinct and intuition.

Well, how much are you applying their teachings onto your own work? Remember, they study a lot from old masters, and given as such when they do demos. You should follow along said demos to try to understand how the old masters render.

Then, when it comes to drawing your personal work, you can apply those render techniques on your drawings/studies.

However, I'm going to assume you're a weeaboo cause only weebs complain like this cause they are annoying little shit heads who can't stop complaining. Apply these same teachings but on your fav anime art work and apply it as such. Easy.
