If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.

getting a slight Junji Ito vibe from this
I like it, although your style of hatching seems to blur the borders/lines of things and that zigzag thing coming out of his mouth is very obviously 2d and flat rather than a series of cylindrical forms.

One of the few anons I've seen in alt that draws convincing anime. The only thing I can point out is her lower torso seems a bit short, making her whole body seem like she's a shorter girl and thus giving the impression she has the body of a young teenager. Not him but to me it seems like the tatoo or whatever that is makes reading that area a little too hard - the design blends the transition of the shoulder into the neck and makes the shoulder look somewhat smaller. If you remove all that I can't really agree with anything poping out there. Although the angle of the scapula bothers me a little (picrelated I believe the line that I left is actually the tatoo, not the scapula but it does resemble a more sane angle for the scapula in this position of the arm), it's not like the arm is lifted that high or anything so it should be pretty parallel to the ground rather then being at a severe angle. Also dat boob.

Overall the anatomy could use a bit of refinement, just saying.

I'm not quite sure how the fuck did people came up with Zenobia's character design. Funny thing I didn't find it all that eye catching until I tried to colour it and use the character sheet. God freakin dangit this is so damn saturated... I wonder how this even is holding up together. Granted in game she isn\t shown in full colour all that often, but still. At least drawing this was entertaining to a degree, those chibi designs from the book give me darkest dungeon vibe.

Was this an attempt at a correction? The original had better line quality and no I'm not just saying that because you used a textured brush. It's messy because it's an un-inked sketch but the lines weren't scratchy and hesitant they were gestural, which is what you do when starting a drawing.

He didn't correct anything else as far as I can see. He made all the facial features out of perspective from both the head and each other and gave the cranium a weird dip in the front that ruins its illusion of volume. Before, her expression was somewhat pensive but nosebutt's killed any semblance of an expression. She doesn't look like she's looking at anything or doing anything in particular with her mouth. I thought all of those were mistakes a side effect of his lack of drawing ability while he was trying to show more finalized lineart, I didn't think they were supposed to be corrections. I got another crit that the leg, where it connects to the pelvis doesn't look right either but by the time I was done I couldn't figure out that one either. The pose is twisting and not running. The shoulders in the original are much higher than where you put them, putting the elbows in the correct place. The shoulder angle is incorrect, the right (her left) is pulling towards the chin and not away from it. The other one you guessed about right but you put it much lower. The shoulder 'cones' end where the deltoids merge between the bicep and tricep on the arms.

I'm don't use PS anymore, I think you should try playing with the settings until you find something that feels comfortable to use. If you're using CSP, there's tons of free brushes on their website, look for g-pen veriety as that's usually the brushes used for lineart.

I also recommend using a stabilizer if your lines are still very wonky when doing single strokes. CSP and SAI already has a built in stabilizer, PS I think needs a third party app like lazy nezumi.

Think of speculars like reflections of your light source. They will always catch on the planes that directly face your lightsource and will rest where your values are the brightest.

One problem with your pic is that your speculars are too soft. Which makes the arms look like clay and the fluffy fur look like insulation stuffing. They should be harder but also follow the texture to break them up.

head does not match the bod well. If you're going for the cutesy, chibi style, try making the eyes bigger and the nose less rendered instead of the current semi-realistic face. Otherwise if you wanted a semi-realistic style, make the body larger as it's currently too small for her head

Idk if it's just me, but the hands look awfully small.

From a overall style perspective your faces severely class with the rendering/anatomy style. I really love how your stuff looks, but the faces man.. they really do not look like they belong. This is just a personal belief though so take it with a grain of salt, because your stuff looks really well done.

cute, but very obviously based on FLCL, esp noticeable on the legs and arms. i would try pulling refs from a few more sources, and i think it'd be worthwhile for you to study something outta the left field to inject the design with some visual interest. right now it's something that everyone's already seen before

>>3441346
cool. study some real faces a bit and see if that helps make your work a little more convincing. which doesn't mean you have to start drawing realistic stuff necessarily, i just don't get the impression that you have an well-informed opinion on how to stylize hair and the like. find a picture of someone with a similar hairstyle to what you're drawing and try to abstract it in a way that you find appealing.

You need to taper down to a point more with edges and not have the lines so consistently thin.
Like what the other anon told you, you should practice with long strokes. It's like your pressure sensitivity is turned off or something with this lineart. You need a larger brush and more weight to it to make it look more visually interesting and alive.

Look closely at the style you wanted to emulate here >>3438980 and pay attention to how certain parts, like the elbow, have thicker lines where they went over it more or how the lines on her knuckles come to a delicate point. You need to just work on figuring out where it makes sense and looks pleasant to have thicker and thinner lines.

It's because the highlights don't accurately portray the shape and 3-D nature of the legs. The leg closest to the camera is drawn quite flatly, and the highlights wrapping around the knee don't help. The tights are also a warm tone which makes it look like meat. You don't want to wear a warm toned hose with a cool shirt anyway.
There are some other areas that appear flat, the face is one of them, it just doesn't look like a believable face, and that's something you have to notice and correct on your own over time. Understand where the bones in the skull, cartilage, and soft tissue protrude outward and those will be your highlights. Combine with shadows to create depth in the face.
Your skirt gets a bit flat across the stomach. It's not too noticeable, but some of your creases go straight diagonally across, which makes it look more like a box than a body. Just make slight curves in the creases to follow the body's contours.
Your shirt is also a bit flat in the sense that there isn't as much depth as the skirt or the pantyhose. You aren't going dark enough in the shirt or hair which brings unbalanced attention to the legs, which competes where people want to naturally look, the face.
These are some minor things that others haven't pointed out that can really take what you've done to the next level. Sorry I've only focused on the negative.
