It's okay, you failed. Instead of getting frustrated and wasting time on a fundamentally flawed image, learn from it and start over again. This time, spend some more time on the drawing, establish the horizon line properly. There's only 1 simple man made structure in the image with a clear vanishing point, so there is no excuse to be lazy with it.

After that, block in the colors on separate layers. 1 layer for the sky, one for the water, 1 for the mountains and coast line and 1 for the house. Don't go overboard with layers, but still make use of them. Work clean and structured. Squint your eyes, don't get bogged down by any details until you have the colors and values down as accurately as you can.

Try to think in terms of values instead of colors.

The original pic has much more contrast between the darkest and brightest parts than your does.

A great book on the subject is "Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter" by James Gurney

color and light is for advanced painters, not a very good book for a beginner

do rough shapes, value and color. just fill the canvas and then you refine it bit by bit. I think of it as slapping a modelling lay on the table and start to slap and punch it to make it somewhat resemble the thing I'm sculpting and start to work in smaller and smaller areas.

also if you're good at drawing just draw the things first then paint it using the drawing as guidelines.

depends on which you're comfortable with. i like to take my time so I go with the first. i'm guessing it's much faster if you're good at drawing and fixing stuff at that stage?

but like all things, the more you do the faster you'll get.

go back to pencil and learn to draw. you only identified like 10 major shapes and you even managed to fuck those up. this is before even going into values, edges, and color.
