I just woke up, but don't worry, I saw all of that.

You will be able to view all of the submissions for a given challenge easily well before that challenge is over. From a technical perspective, it's trivial to do, but I want to do it in a way that's visually appealing, and that might take a bit of time.

Speaking of which, once I finally iron out badge appearance, we will be having site contests for the appearance of spring/summer badges.

Is it worth joining at this point? What if you like the community and don't really need that motivator of having to draw every day?

Anyone has pic related issue? Pretty sure it's an issue on my end because of memory spikes but I thought I'd post in case it was a site thing.

There's four reasons for this:

1) Challenges sometimes require advance planning.
The biggest example I have of this is the Secret Santa or "Achille's Heel" challenge that were posted on the original site. AFTER registration completes, everybody who was registered was matched with someone random. Letting people join even "None" frequency challenges would thus be inappropriate.

2) None challenges typically imply a fair bit of effort. Take the mecha challenge for instance. The idea is that you are given the scope of two months to meditate on, design, create and polish 5 concept-art level pieces of work. Joining the challenge, thus, represents a commitment. To allow people to join willy nilly during any duration undermines the concept of the initial commitment.

3) Non-"none" submission frequency challenges require daily or subsequent submission, and it wouldn't make sense for them to join in the middle of them.

4) As someone has stated earlier, everyone is given at least a week's notice in advance that a challenge exists (you literally cannot create a challenge that begins the next day).

I've been making manual exceptions for the self portrait challenge because right now, it's not immediately apparent that you need to join challenges before they start, which is my bad, going to make that more clear in the future. Plus, the actual effort required in the challenge is relatively inconsequential.

With all that being said, I can meditate on having another option for challenges with a "None" frequency that permits late joining.

I'm building a webhook to take submissions from dad and submit them to my site atm, so that it's just an automatic system, selecting a random space if it's the first submission for the user, and then expanding in a random direction. Takes a bit from the concept since you can't actively choose to go after eachother, but I think it could be fun either way.

On a side note, when the system is automatic and if banana doesn't add a way to say how many hours you spent on a submission, all submissions are equal and just awards 1 plot which would be too slow if the whole world map is used. All I really need is a route spewing out a json array of all submissions with their id, image link and username and id of the person submitting. It needs to take a parameter to offset the submissions, i.e if I import submissions up to id 20, the resource should take 20 as a get param and don't show any submissions with id 20 or below. That way I don't have to load all submission data every time I check for new ones.

it's for fun and off-site, so nothing can break. Relaxo - it's not a replacement site as all sites have previously been. It's complimentary. The discord houses isn't exactly the same thing either. I think that has been going pretty well, so I assume it's going to continue as is too.

I'm making it either way anyways since it's challenging me, if people don't want it, don't look at it. I wouldn't even have to post a link to it and just have it for my own amusement if people are really against it. If there's no resource from dad.gallery, I'll scrape the submissions off of the site as I had originally planned. Re-reading your post I'm not sure if you were stating that as something specific to her image, or as a general guideline.
Regardless because im autistic I tried some color tests to try some stuff myself and make sure I'm not misunderstanding this idea myself.
You can eyedropper around on this thing (make sure you do average and not point sample, the render is pixelated) and you'll notice, many different areas jump down in saturation as they go from midtones to dark, or as hues shift.

What if challenges gave bonus score depending on difficulty to be more competitive? could show as (streak score + challenge score). Would make the leaderboard less stagnant and separate the flawless from completionists, could play catch up with hard work too.
