I also love this painting. I had known it for years when I entered a small random room in Hearst Castle, CA, and turned around to find it was just sitting there on a wall. What a surprise. Better than a museum, got to get my eye ball a centimeter from the surface while the tour guide talked about the fire place.

Did it ever occur to you that if countless of great artists across history used the rule of thirds in their composition, that it might in fact not be a meme? I get it that it's the most common and well known "rule" of composition and hipsters always want to act like they are too cool for that shit, but come on. Be humble, leave your ego at the door and try to learn something from artists who are better than you could ever hope to be.
