IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Thought this still needs addressing - don't apply an MMO mentality of "grinding" to art education.
Learning art is an iterative process, not a fucking loop of leveling up after doing the same shit for X hours.

The purpose of studies is to boost your personal work, not the studies themselves. Don't stay on /ic/ drawing the same shit for 2 years, do yourself a favor and pick a project and actually design something.

This is the first time I tried "painting" with opacity on pen pressure, before I only ever made just lines.
I started with a pretty big brush and splotched in a bunch of zones but I think then i shrunk my brush to a smaller one and just started doing details more for whatever reason, is that bad, should I try doing bigger for more time?

Find ref like this but better - with bald kot and clear light & shadow. Use big brush with no texture, separate light from shadow, add halftones to the lights and occlusion shadow to the darks, your darkest values in the lights should always be lighter than your brightest values in the shadows, push that separation - don't make your halftone value too dark, soften edges where plane transition from light to dark is smooth.

Watch a video in relation to the subject you aim at ( from someone who knows the subject).

For example, I have the hardcover of loomis but i barely open it because the art is just unappealing to me. Then I watched some DokiDoki vids on youtube and saw a veteran animator named Hinoe explain how he constructs figure and he shows some nifty tricks, that I was immediately able to relate to and apply.

I drew as he instructed and it stuck, and then I checked loomis and I saw that he was in fact showing me the loomis 8 head method and I simply "got" it better because I was interested in how he presented it, as a japanese animator.

Its hard to accept ideas and lessons from people you know nothing about and only listen to cause someone else told you to, especially when it conflicts with your own view of things. This is why its important to read/watch a source that:

1). Actually understands what he's talking about and isnt selling you bullshit.
2). Is appealing/pandering to what you are aiming at.

In that order. It is PARAMOUNT you choose your mentors carefully as mediocre artists teaching their bad habits can fuck your studies up real bad.

You're using digital so don't be afraif yo push out the darks and make the highlights pop. Go crazy with the color and then start refining it in your next passes.
Put a greyscale layer over the whole drawing and hide/unhide it to check how good your values are. You want the values to look distinct in the greyscale but not too distinct. You'll know when you've hit that balance.

Made a few edits to your drawing, I could keep fixing but it would be faster to redraw lol. In terms of anatomy youre on the right track, but use your hard lines sparingly, theyre meant to indicate steep surface angles or distance between objects, not for outlining abs. Also, with a traditional two lightsource image, the hard shadow will often appear in the middle of a spere as a ring around it (youll notice it in the edits to the bewbs). Your feet drawing is on the right track.
But your biggest apparent weakness is facial proportions. You were a bit too generous with her nose. Keep some distance to the mouth.

If I were you I would practice perspective as the first thing. So many of the mistakes couldve been avoided: it doesnt really make sense that her legs are below her buttocks, so you made her sit on the edge of a waterfall. Her shoulder would not be visible from that angle, and her far hip shouldve been hidden more away.

Thank you for the feedback.
I was getting rid of the darker contour lines as I worked on each part of the body but kept them if I need an outline for the form. I'm happy you went over the breasts and the shoulder area. It was bothering me a lot and made me realize I should throw another layer on top of it to get a better outline of her torso, since the angle of the neck was off. I like your lighting more than mine, but I wanted it to be intense to illustrate contrasting, I suppose I can change the colors to accomplish that instead while ai study up on values and light source a bit more.
I think you're absolutely right about the perspective, it was my biggest issue with construction of entire bodies and it annoys me Everytime I study with Hampton. I'll add a horizon line and do my best to adhere to that to make sure the figure doesn't suffer any more than it already is.

>>3387978
Truth be told, I didn't put enough attention to the face as much as anything else in the illustration. Any semblance of beauty was definitely a fluke, to be completely honest. That's why I'm so adamant on fixing it since it's one of the focal points here.

I really appreciate both your inputs, I'm gonna work on all these addressed nuances once I'm off work and I'll practice my gestures and perspective while I'm here in my sketchbook.

Now fuck off to tumblr or plebbit, some gay shit website that will tell you you're good because you won't get it here. There isn't anything to criticize because you have no fundamentals. No definition. You're symbol drawing, the drawing is literally a childs work. You can't critique a kindergarteners work.

>inb4 so mad xDDD
>its the beginner thread fuck off
Whoops, sorry for not giving you my time and knowledge for free and telling you how to become a better artist. Sorry for not putting you on a pedestal. Here's my final bit of advice:

Fuck off. The solution is in the sticky. If you aren't willing to learn why are you here?

basics are bad, as others have said. symbol drawing obvs. Focus on drawing things as they are. Keep using references and draw what you see. Don't feel like you're cheating, because that's literally how you learn to draw realistic proportions. Draw reality. Keep trying, don't ever give up, and you'll make it eventually. >> No.3388277

>>3388269
>How do you not "symbol draw" if you are not drawing from reality or a reference photo
Understanding the basic shapes of the body and it's various parts allows you to have an idea of how it should look in 3 dimensions. By realizing an eye is composed of a sphere with a slit opening on one end allows you to understand the volume of the body part and illustrate this properly in various orientations.

>it becomes just tracing of someone elses work at a certain point if you AREN'T symbol drawing
Referencing a collection of images doesn't equate to tracing. It's more of a guideline that you follow to get an idea of how the things SHOULD look as opposed to what you think it should look like, which is possibly biased.

when you draw from reality, you're just tracing God's work. You can never truly be original no matter what you do, because everything that could ever be conceived was already made possible by God. I hope this helps.

Dodson, Huston, and Bargue already have you drawing figures so you'll be a good position to make immediate use of what Framed Ink teaches (assuming you follow the advice of revisiting past material and regularly drawing things you like). Plus, people would likely want to spend more time on the anatomy section to really remember everything so knowing composition first also keeps things fun.

Remember shading isnt light to dark or vice versa. When light reflects on an object there are different out of order values on said object.

resize that shit to 1000 on the longest side next time unless you really need it. there's so much wrong that i can barely be bothered to draw on it or explain it. your pose is flawed, both his arms are reaching back behind his torso as if they're going to be pinned to a cross judging on the angle of the torso. work on head construction, you can't even draw the features perpendicular to the axes of the head. i see construction lines but you appear to have completely ignored them. draw from reference for several attempts before you try drawing from imagination then compare and act out the pose yourself.

I hesitate to say this since you only asked for construction advice, but you seem to take criticism well. Your line work is very unappealing. Be more disciplined with how you place the lines.

Think more about line weight and try not to wobble all over the place. You should also indicate hair with fewer lines. Placing each individual strand with a separate line is just very unappealing.

Good luck!

tried /3/ and got no help at all. Can someone please redline this for me or post a tutorial or something? I have no fucking idea how to draw guns let alone at more dynamic angles. Trying to do the box method but it's so frustrating because I have no clue how the gun is supposed to look so even if I got it right somehow I'd never know.

I don't know about any box method, but the top of the gun has two main parts to it, and you only have one. Forgive me for not knowing the correct terms, but the slide is at the top and the secondary bit (I think) is connected directly to the handle. It's important though because it's to do with the gas exiting that cycles the next round by the slide going back.
You'll also have to forgive my shoddy diagram because I'm using ms paint. I'm also no gun expert, I'm a bong. Guns here are the only thing more terrifying to the general population than someone white holding a British flag.
Also I realise I haven't differentiated between the muzzle and slide or barrel and slide or whatever, so no one has to point that out for my benefit.

Get a 3d model file for a gun, rotate it to multiple angles and orientation and practice drawing it that way, even if you have to trace it the first couple of times, you'll get the hang of it in time. The goal is being able to imagine the exact shape in your mind.
It's the not the most practical way to learn but in your situation I think it's a good place to start.

Not that poster, but where do you find those files and what do you open them in, just like blender or something? I've been meaning to ask about them for ages and always forget.

you can get weapon files from here https://free3d.com/3d-models/weapons
and you can open them with any 3D program, like 3dsMax and Blender, hell, you could even open them in Photoshop and Manga Studio

Still super early with this piece, but should I push values ever further? Any general problems that really stand out to you? Thanks in advance.
