I don't know if you're 100% serious, but I'll give you my full rant regardless, because I have 0 confidence and hope as well, but then after watching a ton of videos/workshops/rants by artists who made it, and talking to some of my artistic idols, I realized I was so wrong about myself and what I was capable of. I also wanted to share my thoughts here on the matter for some time, so its a good opportunity now that we just got a new website.

There is no such thing as being talentless, only unmotivated or misguided. And I'd say that how smart you are only matters a lot if you're going to invent something new, like say if you're going to be a revolutionary fine artist or something, or if you're gonna be self-taught without using any books, videos or getting any feedback.

If you follow previous teachings from a good teacher / book / lassie, you can be an idiot and still make it to any level of skill except genius level, only a extremely small percentage of people who "made it" are geniuses, the rest are normal people and idiots. There is a guy in my class who is quite frankly completely braindead, but he's improving at an insane rate just because of how much hes drawing and how obedient he is to the teachers / other students feedback. Talent is a lie, the only thing that separates you from others are the decisions you make, your passion, and how much time and effort you can put into it, all of which you are in complete control of and can change at any time. Also, very few people start out as super passionate, confident and hard working. Just keep working a little bit more, getting a little bit more motivated and a little better at getting feedback and acting on it and you cannot go wrong.If there's something you feel others learn much faster than you withing art, that is completely normal, and just comes down to what type of artist you are. For me anything technical or design related is super easy to understand and learn compared to what it is for some of my classmates, but whenever I need to create something more artistic, emotional or whatever I spend like 100 times the effort compared to those people, and I'll probably never be able to catch up to them in those things, but that's okay because I'll just work with what I'm good at and specialize myself towards more technical & design related stuff. And as long as you WANT to do something within the art world, I can guarantee that you fall into one specific type that are better at some things than any other types, just try to realize what exactly you want to do, for example if you like spending a ton of time refining one picture and would like to show it to the public eye and get praise etc you'll probably be a great illustrator or painter. If you love working with colors, story, emotional stuff etc you could be a storyboard artist, color script artist or animator. If you like using technical tools as well as rendering and painting you could be a matte-painter, the list goes on.

Don't need to take my word for it either, plenty of people from the top of the industry say the same things. If you watch the course by Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo at schoolism for example, they are are young, successful and renowned artists that worked at Pixar, they'll say the same about talent not being real.

Be honest with yourself, anon.

I dont think stop being sad is that bad of an advice, its just too simplified. No matter how much you don't want to do the things you need to do, just do it. Try new things, walk outside, hang out with friends(if you dont have friends, skip this), go to the gym, buy cool shoes, cut a new hair style, clean your house, find a pet....
Even though your body might say no, like no way im too depressed and sad to do it, you have to gather enough will power to get through that mental barrier. Find new things to be obsessed about to occupy yourself, fashion, music, love, whatever. Just remember that you are the one who have to change not others, really there no one else could help you.
If art is pressuring you, then let it go and come back in a few months. You dont have to do all this suddenly, just start with one small thing and the next day doing more and keep pushing the limits. Basically just stop being sad, get up and do it. I know you don't feel well or even feel anything but desperation and devoid of life, but please make an attempt even if its uncomfortable, its one more step to be comfortable. This is my personal experience on how I deal with depression.

Good advice can be ridiculously simple.

Sure, I get your analogy. Let's take it further.
You know that adding salt to soup isn't good advice, but you can't cook.
Anon who has a decent idea of what to put in makes a suggestion.
Ultimately the customer will decide whether or not to accept or not, but I don't think that anon was wrong in contributing what they could.

If you read what that anon said, they acknowledged that "stop being sad" is oversimplified. They acknowledged the thought processes a depressed person is likely to be undergoing. They expanded on small actions one could take. They also spoke from their own experiences and stated it was their own personal experience.

I'm likely in agreement with you on a few points:
1. Professional advice IS best
2. "Stop being sad" itself IS bad advice.

However, I think it's complete bullshit to believe that no one but a professional can give good advice.
No shit, a professional is the best choice, but a lot of people have gone through the same issues and know what it's like. Personal advice, when sincere, from knowledge/experience and not just three words or sth, can be helpful. And sometimes in ways differently to a professional.
Sorry I probably came off as an ass earlier, but the way you seemed to make it black and white was laughable to me.

Nice work. I like how expressive some of your figures are. But (assuming that you're keep trying to draw an adult) maybe you could double check your proportions and make sure that you're more consistent.

Features seem to be in correct places, so this study isn't bad. But I think that you could improve your work a lot by taking care to make cleaner linework (read in sticky part about chicken scratch). And when drawing portraits like that it helps to show thickness of eyelids - it makes picture much more realistic. Generally speaking humans focus on the eyes the most, so most effort should be there.

It's great that you're practising the basics! I would suggest also practising drawing even longer lines (width of A4 page), and making sure with a guide if your ellipses are OK. I also recommend Robertsons book "How to draw" for learning about perspective - some of your cubes seem distorted (like they're out of cone of vision) and very rarely you'd draw cubes like that when doing an professional illustration.

It's a cute little piece. I like how you're using your values in this comic-book like style and how everything seems proportional. As for advice, the weakest part is probably line quality - you'd benefit greatly from practising drawing straight long lines, clean ellipses etc. Since your perspective could also use some more work I recommend Robertson book How to Draw - it have neat exercises for straight lines and ellipses, and talks a lot about perspective.

It's partially for nostalgia, partially for improving my technical skills so that I can feel confident at my next job, and partially so that I can start improving and help others improve.

And don't worry. "Bullying" pushes me to get better. If some of the shit that was posted before the site got finished really got to me, it never would've gotten finished. And even in the original LAS, I had a reputation of taking things of being comically self-deprecating.

DAD's "levelling" system will be handled separately from badges as a whole.
This will be indicated with some neat arrangements to your user icon (similar to w's site).

Badges simply have a designated prestige of between 1 and 5. DAD's numbers are a bit skewed, so up to 10, the prestige would be half of what their designated value is.

It's a bit more complicated than that. You're right in that duotone gradients work well for making appealing design, but when it comes to making things look shaded/metallic, it can look very cheap if you don't know what you're doing.

he's right. if you arent a graphic designer thrn just focus on flat color, gradients are something only experienced designers can work it out and its an active design decision that Spotify and Instagram made. It's like art, if you are a beginner try to use as little stroke as you can, when you know what you're doing you could either use less or more strokes to express what you want to portray. If you cant find a good reason for gradients then dont do it.

i like simple, clean minimalism, since the rest of the site also uses a minimalist theme, and anything shaded or complex might clash with the rest of our user pages. a simple color or something'd be fine. that's just for the color/ranking delineations, i mean. have to say i love the flower photos so much for the seasons that those two badges are the only ones id really love to get.
also seconding that the silver and diamond if seen in isolation as they might be would be hard to tell apart.
