Old one almost dead. Started new one to post this..

Putting this comp together for an illustration.

Basically wondering whether the subjects are recognizable, whether I should keep the snake tongues, whether the hat is making him unrecognizable, and whether the other would still be recognizable if the glasses were actually over his eyes.

Peterson and Zizek. But I mostly recognized Zizek because of the snot, and from thinking who could be paired with Peterson. Never seen him wear glasses. I don't like the Pepe hat. Pepe pin on lapel maybe. Or give him his Kermit puppet on the non-lobster hand and have Kermit looking at the audience uncomfortably. Maybe slightly Pepe-fy Kermit.

>you should really stop using brown for everything it looks drab
Color is a pretty personal thing. You might find it drab, while someone else might find it warm and soothing. Can't please everyone.

>> No.3367626

>>3367602
Dang, how do you think I could improve on Zizek?

The glasses are a reference to the film They Live, which Zizek covers in his documentary Pervert's guide to Ideology. I believe he dresses up as the character from the movie. In the film, the glasses cause the main character to see the world as it truly is: infested by alien overlords controlling humanity via capitalism.

Yeah, was thinking about the Kermit puppet on the lobster hand because it'd be wierd if he had a thing covering both his hands (I guess?), but the Peterson drinking Coke reference is not so well known so I can see why it would be good to replace it... it's just that I like how the Coke connects Peterson to Zizek (Zizek has a famous "bit" about Coke and another about "caffeine without caffeine"). Problem with the Pepe pin is that that seems to claim that he supports some sort of movement connected to Pepe, which he doesn't, it's just a wierd conincidence and something he's fascinated by.

What about just a frog or tiny-full-body-pepe on his head or shoulder? In his jacket pocket?

It is misleading because their gradually changing it. Do a solid change and you can see the difference. I highly suggest you all try to do a photo study and switch between your ref and your painting and you can see what I mean by using the navigator to fix things like proportions/value. Or you could just keep shitposting and not improve your art at all.

I’ve been posting here for numerous years and the only other time I can recall being called a tracer is in a few drawthreads back when someone used my stuff as the OP image.

Good colors and drawing, but if you want to work with flat colors without opacity, you better work on your color shapes. Try to be more clean and smooth with them, and also you could work on some economy on the shadow side of the face

>>3367864
Beautiful line and I really like the face, but the shadow is very confusing specially the face's shadow. Also, the leg that is coming out from the face is not on prespective unless it's taking a step. And overall check your prespective on the wings, I'm not sure, but it looks flat.

>>3367841
Nice sexy torsos, but be carefull on going too loose and simple on the extremities

>>3367873
You are waisting a lot of time on hatching the hair. You will end up scratching your tablet and it really doesn't look all that good except maybe on the facial hair. Look for a smoother and more eficient way. Aside from that, the dude on the bottom looks dope. He must have some strong eyebrows to strech the headband like that though

try to blend the skin more, it's making the surface appear too rough, instead of painterly
she's got a bit too much chin for Jessica Rabbit, her jawline and skull structure is making her look like a man in drag
ear is a bit too cartoony for me, no detail whatsoever, looks like a pixar ear (pic related), ends up clashing with the rest of the piece
I like the texture on the dress and gloves but her hands don't have much detail, try adding some folds in the gloves, definitely refine the hands a bit. If she's putting a lot of her weight on her left arm, try making it look like it
bunny ears are a lot more closed near the head, and usually furrier

otherwise good work, with a lot of drawings here it's that there's so much off that you don't know where to start and you end up ignoring people, or sending them to /beg/. I think you have a clear path to making this better and that's because of the base you have already, keep it up

her left arm is too stiff, partly because she looks a bit too slouched, but not in a relaxed way. maybe the chair arms are too high. i think the fingers could be a little more femenine in their shape design, and there might be too many lines in the cleavage area, it reads weird to me. i think you should focus on getting a more fluid gesture throughout the whole body, try sketching out like 20 different gestural ideas for a pose before you go into finishing a piece. but overall lookin good, everything looks technically correct, just could use some better shape design in some areas. the head, hair and eyes look especially nice, gj

Linework is pretty good but the expression is just weird. It looks better if the direction of looking is the same as the side of the raised eyebrow. Also, the eyebrows should be drawn as one continuous curve in terms of angle, a curve that slopes downwards on the lowered side and then slopes up on the raised eyebrow side. Your eyebrows are not linked by a curve.
Finally, the mouth should twist a little in the direction of raising.

In reality the human face is fully capable of looking to the side opposite to the raised eyebrow, I can only raise one eyebrow so I have to do it, but visually it's better to unify them.

>Comes under the general ethos of composition which is unity and emphasis.
nonsense sentence

>> No.3370012

>>3370001
How?

Composition is all about unifying the elements of a piece and emphasizing the subject and/or meaning of a piece.

Take for example a villain with two of his soldiers. You want to make a scene where the villain is in control and mocking the hero, with just him and his two soldiers in the shot.

How do you array your three elements? Well, you can't do any arrangement that puts the villain's head below his soldiers', that makes him look weaker. Alright, so his head has to be high. That's emphasis.

Then, we need to array his soldiers around him. Let's say the shot is from the side. If we put both soldiers in front of the camera with the villain in the very rear of the shot, it makes him look like an afterthought compared to his men. We don't want that. So what if we put him in front of the camera with his men in the rear of the shot? Now his men look ineffectual. Finally, let's put the villain in between his men, so that one grunt is right up against the camera looking threatening, the villain is next with his head held high, then there's another soldier in the background backing up his threat. That is unity, and correct emphasis.

You're a /beg/, bro.

Eh, the skin fold (idk how to call it) in her armpit is kinda weird in that it should be created by latisimus dorsi. Or rather the interaction of the forms between lats and pecs. Besides, when you raise your hand high like that it causes the shoulder blade to move aside to increase the range of motion which also leads to muscles on the shoulder blades protrude more and somewhat overshadow the lats being in a slightly superior position. There shouldn't be anything there that would create such a depression or whatever. Well, maybe the mishmash of deltoids heads might but they are higher. The back\shoulder muscles kinda obscure the pecs for the most part, there might be a slight portion of it visible, like the part where it attaches to the shoulder bone going under deltoid, but that's about it. Maybe ribs showing up if the person is really, really, skinny. Or at least I think so, it's one son of a bitch of a pose to clearly see in one mirror, so most of this is conjecture from the top of my head so take this with a grain of salt. Ideally use a ref.

Also boobs tend to follow the shape of the rib cage, without support they would hang from the sides, especially if the rib cage is tilted backwards. This matters when the torso inclines. The roundness of the boob is aesthetically pleasing but at the same time it's kinda not realistic, boobs shift their shape a lot since they are like two chunks of fat attached to the body.

IMO the pose isn't really great for articulating that ass, but that's an opinion. The upper portion doesn't mesh with lower part organically, it would be more natural to stretch where you get your weight on one of the hip rather then pushing your entire torso in front. I know the purpose here is to bring the ass to the viewer buuut... It's kinda on the nose, you know? Or maybe I'm just being a virgin, lel.

I'd say push your values more and don't be so afraid of hard edges. Also try harder to understand the underlying strucutre of the drawing you're studying. The line you have on the inside of her nose (that I think is trying to be her nostril) looks like a continuation of her lip; also her philtrum looks like it's not meeting the base of her nose

In the photo you posted that woman is leaning forward, and quite a bit. It makes sense for her waist to be at that angle. The pose you drew is really more the kind of pose you'd lean back for, especially with how relatively relaxed she looks. If you leaned her back and tilted down that lower back area, it would still look like she has a nice curve without losing balance or breaking anatomy.

The light looks okay but the colours look kinda muddy, but with this subject matter it doesn’t necessarily ruin it. The expression looks pretty stiff so maybe altering that a bit could add to the painting. Overall you’re doing a good job. It’s really just the small nuances that can really make or break a piece. More than anything, try to pick an expression that could tell a story for you character. Does that make sense?

well, first thing is make the sun less bright in value. like you don't have to put a smiley face on it, but it legitimately hurts to look at and it's in the centre of the picture which only makes sense if it's part of the menu(is it?)

and second, the colours are the key to cosy. try looking at some paintings for inspo, or good cartoons (ghlibi might especially be good for here. or 'over the garden wall') grass doesn't have to be bright green, sky doesn't even have to be blue

it's a pretty good start though. i could actually tell what you were going for and the buildings have cute little details

If I'm rendering something fairly realistically, I start with hard round 100%/100%, with no opacity variation, only size variation to block in basic values. Then I move on to typical hard round plus a large hard round with flow at 7-15% Setting the flow like this makes for very natural looking blending acheived with simple strokes. But I just use it in the stages after I lay down my basic values in all the areas where there are soft value transitions. I usually go back to typical hard round, 100% flow when it comes to detailing and edge control. So usually 100% for everything.

a complete piece of art, to me at least, has an outline. Being able to dilineate where an object ends and begins, even if it's a really simple skill, is crucial to finishing a piece of artwork. Now whether or not the outlines have to be black, probably not, but for this painting I was simply trying to reach the level of finish an outline gives it without worrying too much about making it the right color. I mean even renaissance art had outlines, they were just so thin you barely noticed them. The Mona Lisa has an outline, and very noticably everything in the Sistine Chapel has an outline.

You're gonna make it if you keep at it, try painting in a few months. Get some cheap canvases and student oils and just paint whatever you feel like painting

You know how sometimes you see a drawing and think "I'm now inspired to draw that thing"? It sometimes happens that I get this feeling when I'm asked to critique other people's works, or when I see bad art that could have potential. Sometimes that inspiration comes from friends' drawings, and I'll draw something I like and want to share it online, but it'll look like I'm just doing it to upstage the other person. What should I do in these situations?

It's not very good, but that's okay. The subjects aren't very clear (it's difficult to understand what one's looking at), there is no focal point, and you really could do with a better use of contrasts.
Also boxes and fundies and all that fun stuff.

Think about what you want us all to focus at, and how we should read the image. Use contrasts and movement to help guide the eye to where you want it. A easy way to enhance shapes and areas of interests is by using broader lines to make them stand out from the rest of the image.

I wouldn't. But people are weird. Maybe if you add fur and anal sex?

Do what you want and have fun. Fuck what the rest of the world thinks. Just don't be a dick about it.

If you're inspired by a friend and they ask you about it. Just say that their art inspired you and that you wanted to do your own version of it.
