IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I'm on my way to (try) to design some characters. The idea with this one is to do a redux of an old design i did last year, which was a shark-themed girl, not only with the outfit, but also with her face, hait, etc.
The ideas i've got so far, may they be shit or not:
spiked hair: eventually looking like a fin and remind of the shark teeth; glasses: cuz sharks got a shit view; big nose: considering how a shark's face look, found this relevent; big tiddies: cuz sharks are big ass

Do a basic 8 head sketch of a person to reference from, then start doing figure drawing from photos/life and try to apply the 8 head concept. Do medium length poses like 2 and 5 minute ones, and you'll eventually develop a 'hunch' for the proportions since you cant use heads for measuring in every pose.
Try using the 7 head system too, it's "rather dumpy" but theres a reason its the academic standard.

Learning proportions before perspective isn't very useful because unless you're always posing the model as if they're a starfish, the measurements will always be skewed because of foreshortening.

Proportions are something you really have to grind out over weeks through trial and error. Eventually you get an intuition about the correct length.

The color themes before and after the nuke are actually really good, if just a bit muddy.

Definitely needs a panel with her throwing the bomb itself after panel 1 or of an empty hand before she created the bomb. I had no idea what was going on til I saw her materialize the gauntlets, then I had to re-read it.
A panel of buttercup just a few feet before hitting the monster will increase the impact of the climax, also you don't want to bleed one panel over to the next on that page as well. The nuke panel should be completely stand-alone.
The 3 people impaled panel is out of place, that doesn't happen after an explosion, although it does bring up imagery of Hell, it's probably wrong to use.

The very last panel is kind of weird, their expressions don't make sense. They're just standing there watching her run away. Blossom is looking annoyed and bubbles looks confused and scratching her head but has tears. I don't know what they're thinking at all after their sister just nuked their city.

Different perspective. Look at the top of cylinder.

>> No.3363085

>>3363071

Look at the angles in the corners and try to match them up. All the planes of the cube are kinda wonky.

The height of the sphere's shadow on the cube and the shape of it's cast shadow are way off. The terminator of the sphere's shadow doesn't curve around properly and it isn't really rendered well. There shouldn't be a hard edge, use a soft brush, and it should be darker.

The curve of the bottom of the cylinder is wrong. In your sketch layer you should be drawing through the forms to make sure things connect properly.

The shape of the cube's cast shadow is way off.

You gotta be really patient, keep comparing the shapes of things in your picture to the shapes of things in your ref. Keep going back and forth, checking comparing adjusting, over and over till you're sure it's right. Flip your canvas for a fresh perspective now and then.

Maybe don't worry too much about rendering right now and just try to draw the shapes with line, that's the most important thing to practice for you, you really want to focus 100% on your accuracy.

okay, so I produced a incredibly shitty piece - the idea was, I accept pretty much any and all requests I receive via deviantart and this way force myself to also draw things I normally wouldn't draw, and thus slowly improve.

Now, one of the things I almost never draw is anything cartoonish (my chickenscratch game is so strong, anything with lineart pretty much always looks shitty).

so this guy requests a half-body drawing of one of his characters (I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be an OC character, a drawing of him, etc.), and only gives me one 'reference picture', which I will post in a moment.

And this here is my attempt at drawing just that, before I eventually just stopped and left it in this state, because of just how shitty it is.

Now the question: what could I have done better in this picture, with only the one picture I'll post next available for reference?

It's a start, but try to chickenscratch less, practice drawing circles if you need to. Also I'm noticing many of them aren't really paying any attention to stretching vs compressing, which is a big part of what helps make beans look organic. You won't necessarily have those sort of 'v' shaped creases on both sides. If you think about when you stretch to one side, you feel one side go taut while the other compresses.

How much have you practiced spherical forms? Like, for example, wrapping a cross-contour line around a sphere? Having some practice with that will help a lot with beans too.

The compressing side implies the form even without needing the cross contour line. The way lines overlap, even subtly, can tell you a lot. Try it a few times, do your beans except with stretches and compression, I'm fairly certain Proko goes over it in his tutorial so rewatch it if you need to.

Learning forms is a big hurdle that a lot of people struggle with starting out, so don't beat yourself up about it. Try doing some cross contours around forms if you haven't, I find it helps a lot.

Death, decay. This Putrid Stench
Brown deadly gas, omitting from my ass!
This sour disgusting smell fills my fucking nostrils
The walls dilapidated, soaked in crusty jizz from when I masturbated
Destructive gases slowly filling this structure I call my domain
Shit droplets begin to rain from my hot lava ass
Excrement demons begin to rejoice to celebrate this sanctimonious cloud of pure shit
Blast from the past! You must bow down and worship my ass! Again. And again. And again.

Hey Thread, got a question for yea. Would any of you art bros be willing to give feedback on a learning anons shit? Feel free to shit post but, any actual critiques would be very appreciated. I find my hand is steadier with a pencil than on a tablet so I am trying to get used to concepts before I move on to the harder option. Digital art is cleaner and better ease of use, but my lines are so damn wobbly. I'm learning on paper for now, and my scanner sucks dick so it looks more like crap, but eh. I mostly focused on posing (foreshadowing, energetic poses, and such) and did a female character (women being a weak point for me, breasts, curves, hair). In case your curious character is a gender flip of an OC. Some glaring issues I see is proportions being off, mainly in the breasts. I don't know why but boobs are just hard to draw. I can kind of get one right in the profile, but the other in the middle of the body I have no idea what to do with. Thanks~!

It's not about motivation, it's about discipline.

Motivation is fleeting and will be the first thing that runs out once you realize the monumental endeavor you've taken. There are definitely times where you can have fun though, but I think it sucks the majority of the time to draw like shit. I stay disciplined by tracking every day that I draw at a minimum of one hour. I use an app called habit tracker. I think it taps into my gaming side that loves to keep track of stats.

>>3364108
If you could put in 10 hours daily of minimal interruption and focused study you'd be out of /beg/ at the end of three months for sure. Problem is it sounds easy on paper.

>Do the pictures posted require a level of inborn talent, or is it simply following a procedure and practice?

Disregard my last post, but it definitely looks like you have some overall proportion issues, namely the eyes being too high and therefore the bangs being pushed too high up. You can also try fixing the part of the jawline that meets up with the ear, namely moving the ear up a bit and making the angle a smidge more angular. I hope that makes sense, if not feel free to ask.

>> No.3364177

>>3364170
Well it's too late to fix anything. I think I ended up blending the angle when I added shading into that region around the jawline and ear. I had to move the eye to the right at one point and I accidentally also pushed it up.

Measure. Measure. Measure. Thanks for the advice though, wouldn't have noticed the ear bit, I have to be careful when shading next time.

This is roughly your cone of vision from what I can tell. You've set up your canvas too far outside of it, which will distort a lot outside of it.
Your perspective lines are not lining up correctly. They should all meet up on the horizon line at the vanishing points.
I assume you wanted the buildings to be fairly even in size, but the one further back is twice as big as the rest.
Also the streets and ground are just bad. It looks like it's supposed to be a cityscape, but the streets are so crooked.
