IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Faces and eyes fit into perspective, look for the horizon/eye level. Figures is advanced material. You can dip your toes in, but don't expect anything amazing. You still seem kind of bitchy. What do you have to prove? Who gives a shit?

No one cares about you, nor your art, nor your drive to get better. If you make it, no one will give a shit except for losers who follow art celebrities. The only reason to draw is if you like drawing.

I originally had to force myself to draw and I didn't like it very much. Having to face my shittiness made me feel shitty. However, as I got better at drawing, people around me...

Didn't give a shit. Literally no one cares. You think people who make it big draw because they draw for other people? If you want to do that, you should get a job as at Disneyland or something.

Your drawings look so awkward, you obviously know the correct techniques but you aren't very comfortable with them. Anyone can see you aren't very confident. Everyone draws differently, the artbooks recommended to you are meant to simply be a starting point for beginners to undrrstand the basics of drawing. Even if you follow the methods discussed in the books, you still have to remember this: The point of you drawing is that it is YOU drawing.

Now, I'm not saying to throw away all of your fundamentals and make spongebob quadruple penetration doujinshi, but you shoild be interpreting the methods and fundamentals you learn and internalizing them.

And example would be from my figure drawing teacher. He prefers to use vine charcoal because he can create light pentimentos and then go in with conte to further define the figure. I personally block in the basic proportions and gesture of the model and then define value shapes. One of my classmates just draws the line of action, then the contour and goes in with value and detail from there. These methods may be "correct" or "incorrect", but they are all valid interpretations of the original method we learned back when we started the class. And guess what? They all look good. And I wager that the artists enjoy making them that way.

Literally no one cares. You think people who make it big draw because they draw for other people? If you want to do that, you should get a job as at Disneyland or something

This is alarmingly true what you said. I was so worried about being in a cringe art meme of some sort that I started drawing to make other people impressed. You're right, even if I became good no one would care. I assumed talented people had everyone loving them, but now that I think about it you're right. For the audience, life goes on.

So I think I craked a little on the differences on comic vs manga.

Comics prioritize conveying mood or tone trough the framing, which is why a lot of pages feel loaded. Like in a visual novel, where they have weird bent angles with composition, like trying to make each frame as artsie as it can.

Manga prioritizes reading flow, which while makes a lot of panels flat it becomes easier to digest and to read.

I like comparison of east asia vs western writting system, that with chinnese letters they can convey more and are more compact but it takes a lot more time to read each character, while western pragraphs take more space they are way easier to speed-read trough them.

By your descriptions, the writing analogy is reversed, no? If comic panels are more like individual illustrations that are hard to read but convey a lot of info, and manga panels are low detail and meant to carry the reader quickly through the page, then asian writing system which uses complex, high info characters is like comics, and western writing system which is easy to speed read is like manga. comics=asian writing, manga=western writing

But this probably isn't the best way to think about this. Honestly, manga are just Japanese comics.

But I don't think draw-a-box teaches any fundamentals worth remembering, I view draw-a-box more as an introductory course that says "drawing is easy and fun and anyone can do it".

Fundamentals are really more about
- measuring
- getting gestures and laying down your framework
- getting the mass and form correctly
- light and shadow

Lesson one is more about handling a pencil. I'd say do it lightly if you feel unsure, but don't dwell on it.

>Controversial yet helpful introductory course
Just wondering what other people think of this statement. Is it the general consensus?
Been looking at the tutorials for 2 months now and while it helped a ton with understanding forms and volume, I always feel like my approach to drawing doesn't feel as intuitive anymore

>> No.3361382

>>3361360
Usually a beginners intuition is completely and totally wrong anyways, ala symbol drawings. That fact that your methods don't feel intuitive is probably a good thing since it means you're being deliberate. The reason drawabox is controversiol is because the artist that wrote the course is pretty shit.

His course is only good for giving a bit of guidance to beginners and getting them to understand whether drawing is for them. I guess you also learn a bit here and there but it's mostly useless or incredibly generic.

Right now, my end goal is video game art. (Final backgrounds, icons, portraits, sprites that are used in game) I have skimmed through Keys, Drawing on the Right Side, How to Draw, How to Render, Dynamic Figure Drawing, Figure Drawing for all it's worth, and Color and Light. I'm not a complete beginner, I am decent at rendering, sketching, and drawing from life. After seeing all of these books, I've decided that the most efficient books and order would be

-Half of How to Draw
-Half of How to Render while reading the other half of How to Draw and referencing back to the early chapters when needed
-Dynamic Figure Drawing and finishing up How to Render
-Dynamic Hands and Dynamic Anatomy
-Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery and Color and Light at the same time

6 books, and I assume 1-2 years. Can someone critique my book plan?
