IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I've been at this for a few days now and it helps make the grind less monotonous and I've been able to crank out a good 2~3 hours of practice each day doing this without breaking.

I'm gonna go through the beginner reading now, though, since I'm a little bit more comfortable and I'm hoping I'll be able to notice even more improvement after going through some of the theories/fundamentals/practice work contained within.

An hour for each basic shape and lines. You shouldn't be spending weeks or months grinding basics. Sit down and just do an hour of lines or squares or circles or triangles. My attempt at this straight lines always ends up with me creating lines that are slightly angle and then curve near the end. The more I try to find the balance between speed and accuracy, the more I seem to just mess up and forget to use the shoulder as the main mechanism behind the motion.

I'm gonna go back to grinding after this post, but I could use some advice and points if anyone can offer them. I'm just not sure what it is that's causing these frayed lines at this point and how I can improve on it.

>> No.3353038

frayed lines tend to happen when you're moving your hand too fast. Try slowing down until you can consistently hit your marks. You'll probably notice if you go slowly that you'll have more "bumpy" lines because your arm will try to micro-correct as you go.

also, I don't know about you but I prefer using my elbow as the main pivot point when drawing on paper/digitally. Sometimes a bit of shoulder, but mainly the elbow. Perhaps try using the elbow more.

You guess your lines. You don't look at where objects are in relation to each other:

She's cute. Hair could be done more clean. It generally flows in one direction and doesn't cross or be wavy unless it's wavy hair. Ink and graphite look unusual together. Could make your shading more uniform. Pose is okay, but someone would probably say it needs a better gesture. More curves make it more appealing.

is it time for me to try for a finished composition? i know there's a lot for me to work on but im feeling like im plateauing at such a shit level. my lines, proportions, and construction aren't improving at the rate i want to be going at. i just started hampton's figure drawing book, so hopefully by the end of it i'll be better off.

what do you do to fight off plateaus?

>> No.3353361

>>3353353
When you hit a plateau in the gym, it is because your body grows used and anticipates certain actions. You want to try to shock or surprise the system in order to make gains. You can do this simply by making small adjustments in your training regiment to break the cycle. Another alternative, although dangerous, is to fight your way through the plateau with sheer willpower.

Her right arm is basically dislocated and much more "fleshy" than her left arm. For her shoulder to be in that position her torso should be rotated counter clockwise. The contours of said arm are also just completely off.
The left breast should connect to her armpit and the pectorals to the deltoid (shoulder muscle)
Eyes are symbols and the facial proportions are off (face is far too long for the placement of the top of the eye brows to the bottom of nose and bottom of chin -> these should be in thirds starting at the hairline).

Fabric doesnt bend like that.

Anyway- there is a lot that's wrong but we all start somewhere. Practice some gesture drawing from life and pay attention to twists and overlaps of the various forms of the body. Also draw some stuff from reference and observe how the arm is put together at the joints. All things being said the proportions are not super off so you've got the right idea and at least you have the concept of land marks on the body. Make sure you observe difference between male and female proportions

nice that's much better.

try to be more lighter though. after you're comfortable with the circles touching each other try out a few more things. for example: make a circle, make a line in the middle then make a circle that touches that line(middle of the first circle) repeat that with all subsequent circles. you don't need to make lines for those.

another good exercise is, instead of having straight horizontal lines as borders, make wavy lines and fit circles of different sizes inside it

You clearly understand the importance of shapes, forms, value and gesture and are focusing on them. You're gonna go far if you keep practicing in this manner.

Her forearms are too long (burger one moreso), the shadow on her torso below the breasts makes little to no sense (actually I can't tell where the light is coming from in general? It's all over the place though it looks like on a body part by body part basis it's consistent. weird). So, focus on light source consistency next time you color and don't experiment with having multiple ones yet. In fact, have you tried black and white value only studies of reference? Might be helpful and fun

Ponytail looks like a single solid massor a big twizzler, instead of a curled long wave like you were going for, I think due to the prevalence of straight lines and right angles. Hair rarely has that unless it's severely styled and cut
The burger holding hand you should have gone ahead and finish drawing the fingers on, for practice's sake The other one isn't bad but would be deformed if we could see it all, tip is that pinkies attach to a lower and different point on the hand then the rest of the fingers (their points of attaching are an arc -- in fact in general, you will refine your understanding of a hand by seeing how many patterns in them are arcs and not lines.) Upper skull is caving a bit but I can see you are trying to learn the shape of the head and skull, just practice more and do more face studies. Torso slightly too long it looks almost 5heads long to me (or it could be that the head is a little small and throwing the rest of her off. The very breasts are also making the head look smaller, it is rare for them to be actually the size of the head)

Keep at it! The volume of gesture and practice drawings you did is what people should aspire to output when they are learning. I hope some of the tips are useful

- How much reference is okay for my drawing? I have no idea how to draw something out of thin air. Is it okay to heavily reference something at least a first?

-Is there some kind of a 3D model I can download or manipulate online for reference purposes? I don't have money for a figurine right now.

Go to pinterest, search up plants, animals, body parts. You'll find plenty there.

You can also go to one of the artbook threads there are some extreme poses on there. You can also do what I do and look up cosplay models on exhentai, most of it is non-lewd if that bothers you. I download sets there and usually work from those, usually the sets have plenty of interesting poses.

Your cubes suck. They're becoming fun because you're just ignoring the rules. All parallel lines should be converging, but on a lot of yours they're actually separating.
