Oh, no no, I've been drawing my entire life, like most artists I guess.
I just started taking it seriously a bit late in my life. I've been decent before that already imo, but I never considered myself to be pro level. But then I realized I can actually make money off the skill I always considered to be just a hobby.
And in order to become more marketable I decided it was time to do some actual analitical studying and introspection.
About 3 years into my freelance career I stumbled upon a client that wanted porn comics and then I realized how much I really sucked at fundamentals. I guess I developed a better critical eye, when I was comparing myself to pro comic artists.

It's the great mystery anon. One of my goals is to find out if it's true.

I haven't ever seen proof of anyone who got good after 25 who didn't have prior experience. I've googled a ton and most of the results I get are buzzfeed esque articles about Van Gogh.

It's disconcerting. But I've also seen people who have been drawing since elementary and are still shit, so time isn't everything.

>> No.3355207

>>3355182
I'm not that anon but someone who falls into the "been drawing for whole life" category.

Why would you want to start drawing at the ripe age of 25+? Think about that.
I always imagine those people to be millenials who don't want to do physical work, just sit at their computer and watch the money rolling in. However, that is not how art works.
What did you do before 25?
Why did you stop doing it?
What makes you think that you won't stop drawing too after a while?
Do you think drawing is easy? Did you find your "passion" now and you totally love drawing/painting, KNOWING that you'll never superseed those, who have been drawing for their entire life?

Loving art, as corny as it sound, doesn't mean that you'll get to enjoy it every day. There will be days where you hate it and don't want to do anything, yet you HAVE to anyways.

Seriously, if you are in your late twenties or older, think very well about chosing that path. I don't want to discourage you but your artcareer will do that constantly. It is a better/safer way to continue what you did before, because you'll get good at it and you'll earn more.

As for superceding those that have drawn all their life, I feel like it's not that far a stretch, there's many people who have drawn their entire life on deviantArt which I absolutely dumpster in terms of art I think.
It's undeniable that they have a huge advantage on me, but I feel like if somebody were to really work their ass off, they could definitely catch up.

Being honest, I'm 23, but I consider myself close enough to have the anxiety of going over the hump. Before I started drawing, I was really big into writing, and I'm finding that a lot of my ideas I'd enjoy so much more if they had a visual component to them.

So I guess with me, drawing is just an extension of my love for storytelling. I don't think I'll ever stop trying to tell stories, honestly.

Personally, I don't want to be better than anyone. But I'd certainly want to be good enough to draw an appealing picture.

Loser mentality is chosing art as a career after 25.
Art is NOT a career, it i sa fucking hobby. Only 1% of people (the intelligent and ambitious ones) will have a career in art.

This is actually quite true. I'm not sure why everyone is getting butthurt and upset at this comment. Being good at art comes down to 3 factors

1.) Talent

It's based on intelligence and natural aptitudes to specific domains in the brain that are related to art such as creativity, hand eye coordination, visual memory, among other things

2.) Practice time

Truth is, unless you're some fucking neet, it's nearly impossible to make it in art after the age of 25 assuming you're starting from complete scratch. For one thing, neuroplasticity diminishes rapidly along with your free time.

3.) Deliberate practice

In other words, fundamentals. This really comes down to discipline. How many loser nerds on here that play video games all day really have the discipline to grind bridgeman or loomis or work through erik olson's perspective lectures? Very few. Most people just wanna doodle their ocs and call it a day without really challenging themselves.

This person said that only 1% of artists "make it" but I think it's even lower than that.

Well, you can't, because literally every single person on earth has been "drawing since they were a child". That's what children do, they fucking draw. Unless you grew up in the African savannah or some war torn hellhole, you too drew when you were a kid, so congratulations, you qualify as having previous experience, which is ultimately completely worthless.

I mean, unless the kid had artist parents or relatives who deliberately taught him at an early age, what significant difference do you expect there to be? ok but theres some tinfoilery to go with it

be on the lookout for :

nosepeople - tumblrette feminists (the bad kind, not actual women)
eyepeople - reddit
earpeople - pitchfork
toungepeople- 4chan

what about touchpeople? they exist, they are just called asians, having possesed the superior tech pre-y2kipodworldipadparenting they did not "totally" degrade like most of the world
and have adapted to digital living.

they just don't like you thats all, but most are actually human.

face fractal people: these are children. proceed with caution and do not have sex with them.

a man wearing an upside down face: a philosopher or fellow autist who is trying o fit in but closet studying the world. also human, but your gut instinct is to call them loser or crazy

just say the following phrase : "Hello, I seem to have forgotten my watch, and I am late for an appointment, is it 3:33 yet?"
a fake human will correct you with the actual time, and a fellow "real" will be weirded by out by you and awkwardly ask you a question and investigate further.
