Joking aside, >>3339706 is an overstatement of Craig's relevance on the cultural scale, but choosing to zero in on his career as a cog in the production pipeline for the entertainment industry as if that at all encompasses his significance as an individual is short-sighted and ignorant as all hell (but this is /ic/ after all). Rather than identify him as the "godfather" of digital art, it would be better to specify digital painting, and that's an important distinction.

I don't want to contend the point of his overall cultural relevance because even I think he's not particularly significant on a scale as grand as that, but he is a colossal influence on the entirety of digital painting and cementing it's viability in various industries. Also this little 400 something paged pdf has probably contributed more to the people occupying our small little nook in the world than anyone in this thread (probably board), including me, ever will.

this is literally every other post on this board. the fact that you guys call illustrators "professionals" and drawing cartoons for Candy Crush "the industry" is so sad. Don't you guys have higher aspirations? Why do you constantly have to elevate the positions of these failed fine artists by calling them "professional in the industry". They're losers. They aren't artists. They're illustrators. All the "fine artists" you guys glorify like KJG and John Singer Sargent and Leyendecker are universally panned by any serious art critic as self-masturbatory garbage. eh, he's a concept artist. You learn how to do something quick and it becomes a habit you don't think twice about. Especially when you know for a fact you could have rendered it out perfectly without painting over or tracing it. So it just saves a bit of time.

I feel like the tracing/paintover thing only becomes an issue when you're not changing a god damn thing about it, like NADIR and the like.

I have quite a few I painted over pieces of photos but I'm going back to re-render them "legit" so people can stop bitching about it.

I don't really understand the reaction people have towards him photobashing. He's a concept artist, you can't do the job in time unless you find the least time consuming way of communicating your ideas.

Concept art is not, and doesn't try to be a piece of art, it's an effective way of demonstrating an idea, a concept.

>that one page CV

Is that bad?

My CV would probably be even shorter because I earned enough money with few AAA jobs and some smaller jobs I had.
I'm only in the business for like 4 years tho.

I never had to apply anywhere tho, so luckily I don't have to make a CV.
