I just went to Barnes and Noble after watching blavk panther and bought these two books.
I'm halfway through fun with a Pencil and I wanna study Bridgman after.
I bought the animators survival book for my 14 year old brother, who draws often abd makes animations.

Did I make the right purchase /ic/?

no, you could've downloaded those books off the artbook thread for free.

I think there was a version of richard williams work with a dvd or something like that

does it have it?

yes and check out the artbook thread that is floating around /ic/. There are wonderful resources there as well. I use the anatomy for sculptors book in tandem with Bridgman's book because where Bridgman's book lacks finer detail, the anatomy for sculptors gives further detail.

both are good man, i suggest Michael hampton´s analitical anatomy book as soon as you get the chance.

Bridgman is good but too bare bones and rough, i also recommend after Hamptons. "Anatomy for 3d designers" Hampton´s approach is on the figure and simplification but the second one is about anatomy 100% and volumes.

>i thought Bridgman was masterclass?

you´ll see for yourself as you go along, the book is a collection on a lot of rough drafts and ideas he used for teaching but is very raw and not that detailed, still good though. But much better if used together with other material.

Don´t stick with just one book, cross reference from 2 or 3. Those two i mentioned have been great for me. Check them out, you won´t regret it

yes, but not with grandpa loomis, try with scott robertson´s books, james gurney , Vilpuu or Michael hampton

Loomis is pretty shitty desu

Definitely both a good purchase. The animation book for your brother was a good choice and Bridgman is a must have for everyone. Only thing is that it might be too early to get into it right after fun with a pencil. You might want to study a few books in between before you jump into Bridgman. Some examples would be Loomis Figure drawing, Loomis Head and Hands, Hogarth, Hampton, Vilppu and Scott Robertson. You will need a decent grip on the fundamentals before you can correctly interpret Bridgman's drawings.

It doesn't teach you how to draw and thats why I give the book meme status. Richard Williams never tells you about important concepts like construction, line of action, silhouette, etc. His book mainly focuses on timing which is boring and unhelpful for a beginner in animation. So get the Preston Blair book if you actually want to learn how to draw for animation.

Why do black people touch things when they take pictures of them?
>>3328362
It's because he's black anon, because he's black he had to go see the black panther movie. Also he wants to remind you that he's black because that's insanely important and the most defining thing about him, being black.

anyone who downloads and realizes how awesome michael hampton+ anatomy for sculptors duo really are should come back and give back to the community by shilling for them at least a little.

Maybe unenlightened non believers would see the light finally and cut back from that crab loomis and bridgman meme
