Do you mean the manga thread? Because the discussion there was more about pointing out how comics and manga have different styles, and should be categorized and learned differently. That grouping them as "the same thing" is retarded and counterproductive.

I didn't see anyone say comics are bad, and there are many good western comics in fact. Mostly eurocomics, as americomics have really gone to shit, and are stagnant as fuck, but comics nontheless.

It doesn't though. Death Note, Bakuman, Food Wars, Bobobo, Slam Dunk, etc... are all shounen manga.

Shounen can have a variety of genres from comedy, to slice of life, to mystery, to sports, to the infamous battle manga.

Shounen and Seinen both describe demographics, which is why battle manga are most common there, as they're superhero/power fantasies that mostly appeal to teenage boys.

Seinen battle manga tend to be very parodic and deconstrucrtive, like One Punch Man, modern Jojo, etc... And really, that matters a lot also on what demographic Jump and other magazines are aiming to appeal to, as Fist of the North star is a Shounen manga, though by today's standards it would most definitely be Seinen.

To draw a western parallel, Shounen Battle Manga would be like mainstream capeshit, and Seinen Battle manga, being more rare would be the more adult capeshit, like Watchmen. Still though, the correct term is Battle manga, regardless of the demographic. Especially since Shounen Manga, the non-battle stuff can often get quite deep and tackle very mature and adult topics, like Death Note did for example. Categorizing a genre based on what's accepted on a specific magazine is just dumb. Shounen isn't a genre, it's a demographic. Think of it as a different between Novels and Young Adult Novels.

It's ironic to me that you say this, yet in the same post associate all Shounen manga with battle manga, showing that you can't see beyond battle manga when discussing shounen manga.

I'm shit with words but here is my point: not everything is the same and is stupid to paint a broad subject with the same brush.

Even though is easy to associate words with a subject doesn't mean is all the same (thus the "poke fun at how in japan everything seems to be cute girls and superpowers" bit)
