Maybe, maybe not, but I would most likely advertise outside of /ic/. Lava and W never keep the website fresh, and I can understand why it got stale. I was a lot more fun when we had 150+ submitting everyday and new things were happening. I had the idea of creating my own version of the site for over a year now but never stepped up to the plate because Lava and W were doing a good job and I didn't want to step over their toes.

Now I know a new site is in the making, but I'm not sure if it will be completed. If not I'll see if I can get a site built for us.

There's no real excuse for that, but some elements that contributed to it were work commitments and some life/family problems.

Thats actually partially the reason why I've put in my notice at work, I had no time or energy for personal endeavors. Starting in April, I can pretty much dedicate myself full time in maintaining and improving the site while I figure other things in my life out.

As far as this weekend is concerned, I'm using every spare moment I get to work on this.

I understand the frustrated individuals berating me in the thread. Their accusations come from a place of truth and there's a lot I should be ashamed about.

I know that it is tempting because the check is easy to write and you hope to get a website with active user group, but ultimately you're just wasting your time. Implementing more features, rewards systems and other shit won't magically make everyone interested in giving critiques and organizing stuff. And without the community the website will be just a trashy gallery that only a few people visit regularly.
The problems reasons I see in the /las/ as a whole are:
1. No one really feels responsible for keeping it alive. There is no authority trying to motivate others, like imagine if someone like Sycra was backing it up. Even you didn't provide any information about yourself. You didn't post your artwork, the github account is only dedicated to the website, you're not posting any screenshots or ideas.
2. The idea of the challenge is dumb. If you're drawing seriously one drawing a day is shit. And to really progress you need to also paint and do long term projects like animations or complex designs. I think that the drawing meme, tower girls and other threads are much more motivating, because they actually are challenging. Sometimes you need to include machinery, background or draw a type of character that you would never think of yourself. And others can judge you basing on the challenge, how similar your drawing is to the original, how inventive it is etc. In /las/ you just slap an anime face on paper, airbrush it a little and post it as fast as possible to not loose your streak.
3. If somebody dropped it wasn't because of how hard it was to make this one drawing but either because they got bored, wasn't able to post or just forgot about it. If it was really hard and people were dropping all the time because of lack of time or energy then it would be actually interesting to watch and participate.
If not for this three things /las/ could work even without a website just as a thread.

I do understand that other anon’s point about lack of authority if you look at it from the viewpoint of a new lassie or someone totally uninvolved in the older iterations of LAS. It's not about website's functionality.
The point of a challenge is to motivate by giving a task that is both engaging and possible to accomplish.
If you were to place people posting here on the attached chart, you'd probably choose middle or left bottom.
Posting a random drawings everyday isn't difficult enough for an average /ic/ poster. And so they either spend only a few minutes a day on the website just to post an image or talk about how great it would be if a new feature was added.
So what I meant in my 2nd point is that the challenge is not well thought. There is a really good Extra Credits video talking about it https://youtu.be/UvCri1tqIxQ?t=3m20s . Basically if the most fundamental part of a project is flawed ignoring it and building on top of it will only make it more complicated and not any better. And no one right now is capable or willing to carry out a fundamental change at /las/.

And the reason why /las/ was popular in the first place wasn't because it was a particularly good idea, but because there was a new cool community and everyone wanted be a part of it and meat new people. And as every other community on /ic/, that lost its leader and group of people maintaining it, it will slowly die.

Honestly I just felt bad for you when I saw your post. If you really want to resurrect this place and not just spend time on unused app, then here's my proposition:
1. Stop working on the website for now.
2. Design a new challenge that will be similar enough to /las/ but more interesting.
3. Find group of people who would support you and help you spread the message.
4. Start posting your art along with these people here, count your streak and write it in your message manually (it's not that difficult)
5. If other people start posting go back to making the website.

The original "hard-stop" date was March 20th (UTC), for reasons that are... secret. Unless you dig into the files. Still, I want to release it at least 2-3 days before so that people have a chance to sign up before the challenge starts. If I can get it done sooner, then I'll shoot for that.

The way I see it, /las/ is less of a challenge than a means for a lot of people to build motivation or just develop a habit of drawing consistently. Let's not even speak about "making it" or "going pro", some people have discipline or confidence problems when approaching the hobby and there's nothing wrong with providing an impetus.

Still, with regard to a "real, and more interesting" challenge, both previous, now dead, versions of the site let users define their own challenges. Some good ones that have gone by include an animation learning challenge and anatomy grinding. I intend to keep that aspect, but right now I'm just getting the core "LAS" challenge up and running.

This is a good time to pivot into another question. I posted my discord in a previous thread as a means to directly contact me for the sake of transparency and ease of contact, but maybe that's insufficient. Would a Discord channel exclusively for discussing site logistics, updates and feedback be apropos? It seems like some anons have misgivings about the site in general.

Here is a (raw) website idea:
- It aims to gamify drawing/paiting with Elo ranking.
- Users will be able to see their progress in numbers and find themselves in a positive feedback loop.
- Users must create a room, pick a time limit (00:05 <-> 01:00) and theme or reference then wait for others to join. It's kind of like the threads where anons study from the same pic or draw from imagination with the same thematic.
- You can use whichever software you want.
- There is a chat. Optimally people will use it to share constructive advice and observations. The community must be crabless in the long run.
- At the end of each session you have to submit your artwork and rate/sort others' (the name of the creator associated in the chat will not be immediately revealed). It will be used by the ranking system.

What about a similar idea, but every user has the same minutely/hourly/daily theme and after you submit your drawing you can comment/rate other people's drawings/enter the chat. I think it would be much better to rate people's drawings if the user has had to draw under the same constraints. It would quell crabs by the tankful. Also, I feel like having users create their own rooms would make it so that there are too many rooms and since las is so small, there would only be 1 or 2 users per room and then a massive amount of people in one or two rooms.

Everyone here has given up on LAS.
The original site during the beginning was far more basic than las2 and it attracted almost 200 people.
I predict that if a new site comes about that is fully loaded with bells and whistles it will only attract 30 or so people, and then half of those will drop off within a month and it will die again before the year is over.
The issue isn't the site, it's just that nobody is bothered to draw everyday anymore.
I personally think the biggest issue is that just drawing everyday isn't actually a good way to improve, it's not good to take no days off, everyone needs a break now and then and also there wasn't much incentive to actually study and improve, most people fell into the trap of drawing their 30 minute daily drawing to keep their streak and were totally exhausted to draw anymore after that because they're burnt out from drawing over 100 days in a row.
We should move beyond las and do something simillar to unmotivatedlosers but with a website like las. Track points, more points depending on what you study, challenges, goals. Something that will actually lead to improving your skills

Yeah, I quit LAS and stopped drawing all together for 6 months. This was back when the original site was still up. Finally I made myself and plan and stuck to it. After quite a bit of experimentation, I realised, 3 hours of practise is my magic number. And also to always a have 1-2 days where I don't draw. Otherwise I get burnt out.

Theres a lot of criticism of the idea of drawing every day here.

While a lot of it is valid, LAS is one of the best things to happen to my art. A lot of people don't have the discipline to form a cogent, intelligent plan of study, and that's far more unrealistic of an expectation than just drawing every day.

Drawing every day gives you mileage, yeah if you literally mindlessly doodle and don't even give a shit about your 30 minutes then it won't be that helpful, but it was very helpful for me and I know it was helpful for a lot of people. How many of us have said we would freestyle our art schedule for when, and end up not drawing for 2-3 weeks+?
Look how many losers there are on this board that don't even paint/draw, just shitpost?
Its not to say that LAS as a concept can't be improved, but the central concept is still very sound and useful.

1. Pure mileage, getting people drawing, forcing you to make habits and contributing to your practice time until flow state

2. A community of artists. This is pretty important, as it gives you a kind of accountability when you see other people doing it every day. It also gives you a group of people to grow with.

3. A tangible goal. Most people cannot come up with a specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goal in respect to art. LAS gives you one. Draw every day for 30 minutes. Its that simple. Its up to you how far you run with that goal, but you can't say you weren't given the opportunity, every day, for at least 30 minutes.
A lot of the people shitting on LAS claiming better solutions/goals. Most of the proposed solutions do not fulfill the criteria of specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Look how many people can't even draw for 30 minutes everyday.

LAS has never claimed by drawing 30 minutes everyday you'll make it, but it can put you on the right track. It definitely has its place.

Thanks to LAS I drew 707 days non-stop. Sure, some of them were lazy days, but that's one million times better than drawing nothing at all.
