that was just after waking up. there was some stuff i wanted to draw before heading to my character design class and i wanted to practice the anatomy i've been learning.

i thought i'd need to construct a LOT of figures once i actually got there but i missed last week so i just ended up doing a bunch of silhouettes...

Was drawing a quick sketch of Ruby Rose (from RWBY) while trying to use the loomis model but couldn't get the face shape right as it looked both too masculine and realistic for an anime girl. Didn't have enough time to restart due to work starting soon. Any tips for making the loomis model work for cute anime girls?

The underdrawing is good, your inked lines aren't. You're trying to connect all the lines point-to-point, which doesn't look good. Spend some time reading through the book I suggested, you'll soon see what I'm talking about. In some respects it's better to think of the finished lines as drawing in the occlusion, and then deciding where you need more lines/edges to further describe the form.

I did it myself

I painted another layer to my Madonna and child, wait for it to dry. I over painted a figure out of a large painting, wait for it to dry. I added the lower eyelid to a self portrait and ever so slightly worked on the eyeball, it's finished. I went to look at a landscape I'm painting but I got drunk before I arrived so came home as it was dark after I stopped boozing.

Is porn art? Of course it can be, but I won't lie when I say it can degrade the value of the piece. Consumers are solely invested in the subject matter and don't usually care for much else, so porn artists don't usually go beyond a halfway-rendered piece.

I smoothed out a coat of paint as much as I could, it's not enough. It's a problem as the painting deserves better than the backing and I know I can fix it though it's not the same as I've done before. I need to think about it.

I started work on the composition of a big painting, it does work , it's going to be a struggle.

Then I was a mad man and took another canvas and took apart the original intent, it was an improvement. Not much light here, no supplies , what I have is progressing. I also painted some terre vert or sap green on another canvas from the tube, it really worked and brought the flesh tones out like a pearl. That's the mixing creating this, many flesh tones does something good.

I did a shitty free commission for a furry I know who's sister died this week.

Hey Anons, new to this board. Wanted to learn Digital art, I'm pretty able on paper but technologically retarded. as far as values are concerned, your darks are a little bit too dark (as mentioned with the upper lip), but your lights are not light enough.
maybe you should identify the darkest parts of the image (in this case, the hair and shadow under the nose), and compare all your lighter shades to those 2. it would help you avoid the small mistakes like the upper lip. you got good values for the most part, but you definitely needed someone to take a second look at this. a solid first attempt, keep at it mate.

You are supposed to use high amounts of reference idiot, especially since you haven't got a handle on how to do lighting properly. Draw the same shit 50 times with reference and you'll know it well enough to do it in your sleep. The people who do the fucking retardedly good tier of planet art are photobashing or spent many weeks rendering it to achieve the high level of density and quality needed.
You need
>more effort spent on the drawing
>more time spent getting the base layers right
>Much more reference OR your visual library (if you have years to waste drawing clouds, drawing lighting, drawing terrain, you get this) OR photobashing OR CGI created using 3D models oftentimes people use all three

The iris is so dark that it looks like it was not part of the drawing, when this happens the drawing can become unpleasing to look. Just a tip.

Gotcha, That totally makes sense. I am moresoever focusing on just figuring out the basic shapes and basic shading for now, but I see your point on how to improve and once I begin to pay attention to tones in the linework and such that advice will really pay off. The reference itself even has lighter colored eyes so it took away from a key feature that the model had and that is something that was much needed in the sketch. Also, I am half aware of the whole deal on not using hard black, but I do like the look of sketch lines with hard black as the base color, is it something that would help me improve on these basics or can I just be lazy as far as my sketches go?

Any other advice or thoughts you have are more than welcome by the way, and thank you for your comment so far.

I guess you can, but if you go for the pure black you can try soften it in the iri's borders so it kinda of blends with the white part of the eyes (using the shadows around too, maybe it could work, who knows? try it!).

When doing color composition, try to balance the palettes and saturated colors so the eye has a place to rest.

The subjects in the background have low constrast so that's good, but the main subject has bright and saturated colors everywhere (bright yellow, bright sky-blue, bright red) so the eye doesn't have a place to rest.

The red doesn't feel like a light source. Looks like ketchup or blood.
This is due to the fact that you're not establishing any shadow shapes. I'd also the red wouldn't hit his forehead or the cheekbone.

There's some other things, so I did a really shitty paint.net paintover with a mouse. I think the main issue with your style is the ability to get nice appealing shapes (something that I haven't gotten in my paintover). Perhaps you can zoom in and really get nice shapes. Also be aware of how light can indicate form as well. I threw in a BG because the red light helps indicate the hair.

Never shade with black
Use the multiply option for shading layers
Use screen or luminosity for lighting layers (luminosity reeeal low though since it's so strong).
Find a light source and stick to it
Don't be afraid to shade over parts of the face

(not saying you need to do any of the above, they're just general tips)

This is just how I would have shaded things. I did use SAI for this, but when I draw on mobile I use Medibang. I haven't used Art Studio, but I suggest trying out Medibang Paint, since it's free. Very good to use.

Okay, since there seems to be a strong red glow, I didn't just use a shade of black for his hair and suit. I tried to go for a dull red color close to black. This will let the image blend together smoothly.

I also colored the line art and kept everything cell shaded more or less. I tried to use a darker (or lighter) color for the line art when it is within the silhouette and within that colored area... A little hart to explain in text, haha.

To show a little depth, I colored his back arm and hair darker with a simple solid flat. This will let the arm facing us pop out more.

It's more of a style choice on my end, but when I color hair.. If it's overlapping the face (bangs) or the shirt, I do a layer of the shirt color underneathe and blur it. Since, unless it's really thick hair, there will probably be some color showing through it. But, again this is a me thing and people would probably point out what's wrong with it haha.

I also used a few overlay layers on Kylo to help the piece flow better and make it seem more interesting

I've heard good things about Krita, but I really only use SAI right now. I've only dabbled in a few other software... Medibang is really nice though! There's a mobile and desktop version. It's especially nice if you make comics.

I only really use gimp when I need to do some things liike.. Make the image transparent, for example. And while I have Alpaca, it's kinda just... Covered in dust. I used it a couple times and it was alright? I prefer Krita more out of the two though.
