Mine's not too bad considering I created it in December and haven't posted to it in 3 weeks.
It did originally start as an account to post my l00ds, but desu I've already gotten bored of drawing porn and have decided to distance myself from my porn alias. Now I'm privating everything andconverting it into a general art blog for my shit. Wonder how many followers will jump ship or if I'll continue to gain new ones.

I think one of my mistakes is not posting enough comments on other people's work. I notice once I start posting comments sometimes I start getting more follows or random likes/retweets.

I feel like if I just had 200 followers so I can get 10 or so likes when I post, I would be happy. With my little bit of followers it can I take me a few hours to get like 5 likes.

Is tumblr your main platform? Always wondered how people get an nsfw following on there... like do you promote your stuff actively, or just let the tags do their magic.

When I look for "nsfw art" it usually spits out a couple furries with just 50-300 notes. Or a personal example, I'm somewhat successful with my Dark Souls art, 3k-5k notes on each painting, and other vidya paintings with about the same. When I tried doing some nsfw, barely 100-200 notes, I guess my audience wasn't very thrilled with what I was trying to do. So I'm curious how to attract or invite your type of audience, since you have easily much much more followers than I do, and presumably anyone here.

Besides that I just try to tag my art accordingly to the subject I'm posting. If it's fanart I tag the name of the show/character. If it's OC I tag what's going on in the pic. Remember that only your first 5 tags will appear in tumblr search and only to those that have safe searching turned off, so they can see nsfw.

For now I'm only having fun. I grew tired of doing concept art for video games in the past much quicker. It's human nature to grow tired of stuff. I try to keep myself motivated by improving my art. For now it's working.
Because I experiment a lot I don't have a very regular process, so it's hard to tell "how many illustrations I manage per day". I work around 40 hours per week and that's it.

I never had issues with Patreon. I mostly draw commissions and OCs anyway.

25k on instagram and fully self employed through etsy. Started 2 years ago.

Theres always a risk of quality though so if you do it, get samples first and start small. People rarely share which manufacturers they use so you'd likely have to figure out which ones are good on your own. I've also heard of a couple instances of them selling customer's designs wholesale without permission.

I used to do pretty well on my Tumblr (regular personal illustrations, not NSFW). Just by looking at these current numbers today, it's seemingly not dead either.

Unfortunately, all this activity is from 1 dumb little illustration that went viral. As of today, it currently has just over 150,000 notes. I've got almost 10k followers, but most of them are completely inactive - presumably left the platform or abandoned their account. If I were to post something now, I'd struggle to get even 100 notes, which - out of 10,000 followers - is absolutely pathetic. I put quite a bit of time into growing the blog with a vague & naive goal of "getting myself out there" in the hopes of passively landing freelance opportunities, but it was never really worth it. I stopped adding new work about a year ago as I saw both my numbers decline over time and a lack of real-world results.

Overall, nothing significant ever really came from the time I spent growing my Tumblr. I've been fortunate to have built a decent & stable freelance career, but I could never attribute any of it directly to Tumblr (or even Instagram, which I'm much more active on). In regards to my freelancing goals, the time I invested trying to crank my numbers up on social media could have been much better spent on more proactive & direct self-promotional efforts, which have yielded a lot better results.

Tumblr's a really poor choice for networking in all honesty, hence why a lot of people have converted to twitter. Tumblr works best for fandom related followings that are used to checking tags.

Last month I’ve been posting something nearly every day and I’ve had a lot of growth. I went on a hiatus and my numbers started dropping; I’ve lost around 15 followers.
I mainly draw random characters or studies.
I haven’t started networking yet.

Any advice for me? I know I need to draw everyday, network with other people and draw popular shit (fanart, seasonal topics) in order to get a lot of followers quickly.

Yeah. Tumblr, insta, DA, artstation, Twitter. Link between them all. Use tags wisely. Be consistent.

Been on the site since 2012, though I've only had this particular one since 2014.
None of the commission work I've done has come through tumblr, though, so the low follower count I have on here isn't a huge issue.

They come through Pixeljoint/TIGSource, as I do more pixel/game art, and it's a bit easier to get noticed when that's mostly a case of keeping your portfolio/information thread updated.
