He didn't photocopy anything, just copy/pasted the image and half assed some brush strokes here and there but it doesn't affect the image at all, without the image underneath bleeding through his work you could see what it really looks like, let alone him trying to repoduce the image without a reference on a blank canvas, which makes more sense for a study.
