i flipped through perspective made easy, got halfway through chapter 3 of scott robertson's book, and i got bored. i started learning to draw with portraits off b/w photo refs and quickposes for gestures. i did 20 gestures a day in my first month in addition to like a portrait or shitty figure. so after that i felt like i had a good grasp on the flow of poses or what not, but constructing a figure was pretty difficult for me as i never practiced rotating 3d forms in space. even now i still have trouble with foreshortening and stuff, so i should probably do some quick still lives where you drop the shapes into the objects and observe how they function in perspective. my perspective isn't strong, but i know how to measure stuff when there's 2 VPs. personally i love gesture and seeing dynamic poses, but it's probably wiser to start with a few irl still life drawings cause that can teach you a lot of skills at once.

1.) Diminishing returns is a thing. You'll probably make more progress in the first year of drawing then you'll do in the 5 years later. 2.) I kinda saw what it was supposed to be, don't think you're too fucked for a /beg/inner. Try to think of colors not only as that little bright thing you see, but as something that is able to render things like depth, angle and especially how it can be solid. Try to see how color behaves when it informs us of such things, which is all the time because reality has no lines. Then try applying those dynamics when you paint.

There really is no problem saying someone is a he or she (unless they're someone who's a sensitive sally), but it's what is taught in school when children are taught how to read and write.

Were not the only language that does this. From my 3 years of German, they have he, she and it as well. If you didn't know who someone was you'd say, wer ist es. (I believe it's been a while).

>>3261731

I don't know where you two are coming from because this is taught to children learning to read and write, and it's been taught for years. It had nothing to do with the feminist movement. Also, this is ic go back to pol.

Not pissed just really confused. Sorry for the misunderstood tone.

But I just read this
> http://kemthemerciless.blogspot.com/2007/08/i-we-you-they-argh-argh-argh.html

And I relearned that he was used as a neuter. And that makes sense because English is a Germanic language, and in German, the same thing is used. But this is the 21st century, not the 18th so things, such as language, change with time.

But hey, let's just treat this like the Oxford comma.

Your compositions have grown really appealing but still retaining the chaotic energy of your earlier work.
>those subway sketches
Fucking sweet. Are those done from life or photos? I know it's your style to work with a single pixel brush, but it would be cool to see you work with a softer but still zero line-weight brush.

>>3261715
Your color choices feel a lot more stronger and confident than the beginning of the year. The way you handle hair has especially gotten nice.
I think maybe if you experiment more wildly with process (maybe try something without lineart) or style (look at other anime artists you like and study their pieces), you'll find yourself less "stuck".

>>3260890
The anatomy and stylization has improved immensely, but I feel like you need to look at blocking in tones instead of going for texture straight away, because your values look muddy and ill defined.

>>3260062
Try focusing on values (studies, doing gray scale original drawings, etc) for a month. Your work is hurt by how soft and pale you approach value.

Nice.

>>3261775
Oh, I'm not antagonistic towards the usage of 'he or she', just that people who get pissed off at the usage of a singular 'they' in non-academic contexts need to take the stick out their asses.

My second language doesn't have gendered 3rd person pronouns, so maybe that's why I don't get the fervor.

Try to define your own style more. Try going through the blogs you follow and only remain following the ones whose art you look at and think "This is what I want my art to look like". I did this and went from following over 1000 to about 400 and its already helping me see the direction I want to go in with my style.
Although if you do that and you're still following a bunch of stephen universe/calarts meme artists, then I've got no advice for you. If thats seriously what you want to aim for, you do you. I'm just saying that you wont stick out at all.

Animating helps a lot, try to visualize what you're making before drawing anything. Try to imagine what your figure is doing immindiately before and after your drawing happens instead of "posing" them. If you want to use reference, try using videos or instead of static images. I have been lifting for about 1,5 year

Time between the drawings is about 4.5 year

in fact, professional artist do copy from photos a lot, It is a good way to improve in some specific things like light or color, but you need to keep focus on what you're doing, and don't do a mindless copy, the goal of copying photo or artwork is to understand why the things are arranged like that (keep in mind that this only happens for study purposes)

>> No.3277475

>>3277434
if you copy a nude photo 1:1 >>3277368 it doesn't do shit for you as an exercise. even more so, if all you do is take the photo into photoshop, create a new layer above it and trace it. many times, you can tell by the exact translation of lense-specific aspects like lense-flair, reflections, distortion, color aberation and so on. for the same reason that a copymachine will not just start printing artwork when it's idle and has no printjobs inbetween: all it does is copy. tracing a hundred photos will not have the same learning curve as you get from drawing from life as much and as often as you can. you don't learn faster by making shit as easy as possible for yourself. that is essentially what "technical crutches" are.

This is what happens when you just draw without any formal learning.

Pick up a book, watch a tutorial and you can improve this much in a week instead of 8 years.
