IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

sort your tones out, her hair for example should be much darker. Tones are easy on paper because if you go too dark you can lightly use an eraser to lighten them up a bit. There's other things; like how the darkness of her mouth makes it seem like she's missing teeth and how the measuring, particularly the eyes is kinda fucky but focus on the tones for now as they're the easiest part to fix.

>> No.3236357

>>3236353
Yeah I guess toning is the main issue right now.. but there's only so much I can do in terms of how dark i can go when all i have is some dumb number 2 pencil.
I never really tried anything else, mostly because I don't even know what I'm supposed to use, what type of pencile would you recommend for shading and stuff?

>> No.3236360

>>3236338
It's more about how you chose to present it tastefully as you develop it until it's a 1:1 replica. In your example, you haven't subordinated anything and have represented everything (even brush strokes that are usually tastefully eliminated like the lower eyelid) as if the first lines you put down are your final lines.

This wouldn't worked fine as a preliminary stage had you done more critical measuring. You should compare the size of the facial features more often, you don't have to be very specific in your measuring as that will obviously cause drawing fatigue much faster than you'd be able to get any meaningful information down but you'll retain the measurements at least a bit

A large part of it is eliminating your frustration with observational drawing. If you become too analytical at this stage and try for the complete accuracy of an academic professional you'll get frustrated - you should find many images that interest you and draw them at your own pace, but don't get too critical until you've finished

>> No.3236365

>>3236357
Just use whatever you have. It's not the tools but how you use them. Judging by your lines you're not using the overhand grip to shade which I think would help you a lot.

symbol drawing is just that. Drawing symbols instead of drawing what you should be drawing. The best example I can give you is the human eye. When any newer artists start drawing actual people, they'll look at the reference and look at the eyes, and their brain says "oval!" so the person will try to draw an oval, slightly sharper at the ends. Sort of like One Punch Man's eyes. And it'll look like shit. When in reality, eyes have more of a leaf shape, but your brain tries to break it down into an easy form to recognize and jot down onto the paper, but it ends up being wrong and looking like ass.

To get out of symbol drawing, we need to think about a series of planes. Planes separates lights and darks.
Construcción is a serie of planes.

It's an example of symbol drawing, not an example of which is the superior way. At a certain point depending on your goals, you can get away with doing some symbol drawing since it's a part of stylization. Problems come up if you don't have a good understanding of the basics, so you're not going to get away from the fundies that easily.

Your drawing is basically all the same exact tone of grey. Take your darkest pencil (if you don't have any charcoal pencils I would suggest getting some) and draw a square of the darkest black you can. Now take your lightest pencil and draw the lightest square you can. Your drawing should be using a full range of values in between those, all the way from the lightest to the darkest.

Just look up any "how to draw realistic eyes" or "how to draw a realistic nose" video on youtube and you'll probably see instant improvement. You need to start thinking in terms of values instead of lines. Like, you just drew a line to outline her nose and made barely any attempt to show 3D form through varying light/dark values.

Question, when shading, is there a conscious way to go about the subject without getting caught up in unnecessary/inaccurate shading?. When I do it, first of I focus on trying to figure out where to place the lightsource and give the values based on that logic, but I generally go into autopilot with the color picking without considering how much that beam of light is affecting the surface and I wonder how accurate my values really are to the ones in real life. I know there's a shit ton of variables to consider and that'd go beyond /beg/ but is there a way to have a more technical understanding about the process? studying from reference over an over is an obvious answer, but I am more concered on "what I'm exactly looking for" in the shading process so it becomes more of a second nature rather than just a second guessing game where I end up relying too much in reference cause I don't understand what's going on.

See, I understand that you need a little bit of help as we are not human printers but I am concered of falling into making "polished turds", where you see really nice textures, design and rendering but a good eye can spot a shitload of mistakes regarding the accuracy of placement in values (even profesional artist have them).

Any books or links adressing this topic are appreciated.

Any tips on getting better control over my pencil? I feel like I cant draw lines the way I want without it either becoming wobbly, over exaggeration of what i was trying to do or just wrong completely. Meaning instead of a circle its a circle with a tumor or instead of a straight horizontal line its a bumpy incline. This is a problem with just basic shapes let alone more complected lines that i try to be precise about.

I'd suggest you try lighter strokes for blocking the form of the subject. Also don't be afraid to do a few gestures next to each other beforehand (could be the size of a thumbnail) until you feel you got a good pose to build your way up on.

As for critique on the figure itself, the neck seems a bit too 2d, you may want to try to simplify it by doing a cylindrical or round shape. t'd be more efficient for you to imagine through the visible form and try to draw the limbs in more basic shapes so it is easier for you to see what you are building. Here's Proko's vid on gesture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74HR59yFZ7Y

He also has videos on building form, check his structure basics and mannequinization videos, pretty straight forward into what you need to learn.

Also be careful with the scratchy lines, the more fluid and confident your lines are, the less stiff your subject will look overall.

No, understanding. No control. Once you get it down construction is a very powerful tool. But, up to you. The average traditional artist have no use for construction since they only copy photos or do life drawings.

Constructions is a tool for imagination drawing. You can use it for others but imagination is main focus.

So I was asked to Lern2Draw here. Basically this is the situation. I need to shit out 100s of pictures like this, and I was implored to make them slightly less shit. But because I have to draw literally 100s of them, and I am shit at drawing obviously, I can't just spend twice or ten times as long on such a slide.

So I'm asking for advice on "How to draw less shit without just spending more time on a slide or 12 years in art school"

Construction follows

So one of the things that wise anons would for example recommend, is that I probably should properly construct the hands if they're in a close up / this central, because what I had was basically a pancake (in red, like the foot) that I sketched some fingers around. But that occurs to me now.

I spent about 2 hours in construction (red skeleton, blue meat added), another 1.5 hours doing the actual line work and another 1.5 hours coloring and flat shading and touching things up.

Obviously I could do much more elaborate constructions that require much more time, or spend time trying to find references for each damn slide, but if anyone has suggestions on how to be less shit WITHOUT it costing additional time, I'd be thankful. Other than the hand construction thing, I'll try to remember that.

No, /weg/

The standard isn't too high and if I go 2D instead of the default (rendering goblins in DAZ3D) I can do some interesting things with it. I should probably get me a rendering program anyways just to get easy access to references.

Another problem is I'm running linux and I don't know of any poser that runs in linux. Oh, and this was drawn in Krita. Krita sucks.

When you lack fundamental knowledge of anatomy you can't simply will yourself to suddenly make better pictures.
It all comes with practice, and practice takes time. Possibly after drawing your 100s pics you will be better than when you started, but without trying, failing and learning, you won't get any farther.
But if you want to shit out faster a better quality pics right now, then I guess taking time looking for correct references is the way to go, to at least make less glaring anatomy/perspective mistakes.
Also, idk why someone apparently quite inexperienced as you, would take the request of making 100s of drawings. If the requester is saying to "make it less shit from what you're usually doing" then perhaps this job is not for you at the moment. Take your time to learn the basics, or just practice, and then go back to requests like that.

To place the drawing easily on canvas here is a trick, so underneath the paper rub the whole part with charcoal then place it on the canvas. Following that take a pen and press with the pen on the lines that you've already made while its on the canvas. Once done after you take the paper off, your picture should be there.

Read the first 20 Pages of G.E Hicks a guide to figure drawing, but if you're lazy look at your reference and draw the arm first with the use of straight lines, making two dots and connecting the dots with one solid line. Following this after you have made a solid shape of the arm with the use of straight lines, remember make sure that the shape is correct in order to maintain the proportion. Following this then you can use curved lines
